seriously, is this a real thread?
Calzaghe beat legends, contenders, was the first and only person to become Ring Magazine champion at his weight, is the longest reigning world champion in the whole of boxing, and has been the best in his division by miles for over a decade.

Hopkins beat up nobodies and two blown-up welterweights, was a nobody himself until the Trinidad fight, and kept making excuses not to fight Calzaghe.

ive said it before, nard beats calzaghe any day, based on style. bernard whooped on tarver because tarver is a southpaw, vulnerable to lead rights, and hopkins specialty punch is the counter right hand...id say hopkins beats calzaghe by wide UD.

the best guys that calzone beat were eubank (a clown), reid (a fringe contender), and lacy (if calzone beat him THAT bad, lacy's probly not that good). hopkins STOPPED trinidad (a natural MW), dlh (the golden boy), glen johnson (we all know who he is), and taylor just managed to sc**** by with two BS decisions.

right after the biggest fight of his life (that took almost a decade to get to... by his choice), calzone decides to fight some putz named bika. after being upset twice, hopkins beat tarver and on the LHW championship of the world, something his idol sugar ray robinson failed to accomplish, and subsequently retired on top.

calzone's record pales in comparison to hopkins'.

Hopkins - fought and reigned in America. Therefore is great.
Calzaghe - fought and reigned in Europe (and even managed the impossible and won a fight in Germany). Is thus protected and overrated.

That's how this works isn't it?

PS I think Hopkins has had an exceptional career all things considered. But their records are only different in the sense that Hopkins has won titles at different weights, which gives him the edge IMO. For anyone to say that Calzaghe has a) ducked anyone, b) has fought no-one and c) has been overprotected shows either a staggering lack of knowledge or just plain ignorance of anything outside their own country. It's a big world out their folks.

Have you ever watched Bernard fight prior to the Tito fight, before he was in his mid 30's?

Don't listen to others that say Bernard was in his "Prime" from Tito on, that is bull****...and yes, Roy beats Bernard anytime prime vs prime.

America is where it is at, at least was...the majority of the "Great" Champions have all been from "America" so what's your point? This has nothing to do with myself being a "Homer" because I am from the States...if you want me to say where the greatest soccer player is, I am not going to say "In America", or the best Tennis player, etc.

I would of liked both fighters to have moved years ago...Calzaghe should of moved up to 175 if he wanted a better fight, like a fight with Roy Jones Jr. prior to going up against Ruiz

Bernard should of moved up as well...kind of boring seeing him fight lower weight fighters and making a name out of it...yes, I know that he beat all the other middle-weights, but lets be real, he beat Tito and Oscar to make his name popular. He could of too moved up to chase Roy Jones Jr. prior to the Ruiz fight, to avenge his loss, but he knew he would lose again, so he didn't.

I'd favor Hopkins because of their styles, but he still loses to Roy prime vs prime...I think Hopkins will always have problems with that type of mobility in an opponent.

The first part of that paragraph is very arguable.

In terms of SMW, Europe is where it - and the money - is. And has been for some time. And if somebody is prepared to fight in Germany against the local favourite then I don't see what fear the US would hold. So the story goes, the JC-Jones fight was pretty close to coming off, and it was nothing to do with location that ended it.
