It works both ways in this argument:

Marciano was accused of fighting "Older" fighters: he beat Moore, Louis, and I will throw in Walcott, not so much Charles, though he wasn't in his prime either...all have been knocked out before.

Tyson, fought an "Older" Larry Holmes: he knocked him out, the only time Holmes was ever knocked out.

Marciano was accused of fighting blown up Light-heavyweights: ex: Charles, and Moore...Marciano struggled with Charles in their first meeting and took about 8 rounds to knockout Moore, who knocked Rocky down early in the fight...Moore held his own for a bit before he succumbed to Marciano's youth, tenacity, and power.

Tyson, fought a blown up Light-heavyweight, Michael Spinks...Spinks beat Larry twice, though one at least is a disputed win...Tyson destroyed Spinks in 1 round, who is regarded as one of the greatest LH in history, and never lost before.

Unlike Marciano, Tyson burnt out mentally

Even though I really hate to concentrate on "size", since sometimes it can be overrated, Marciano was a 185 pound fighter...for that, he was just incredible, a beast of a fighter...any man under 200lbs would have their hands full with Rocky...one of the most devastating fighters under 200 pounds.

      Tyson- 35.4

You saying their washed up, when their only .8 older?

You don't think other Heavyweights in history couldn't have had the same record as Marciano fighting the same competition?
      Ali, Foreman, Tyson, etc. ??????

It's hard to say since by the time the Heavyweight division was something, Tyson had been **** for years: he left Rooney, wasn't motivated, went to jail, came out rusty, skills went to ****, and he was only fighting to pay back the I.R.S. and kids.

Tyson burnt out before we could see him "Truly" tested against the likes of Holyfield, Bowe, and Lewis.

Remember, Ruddock was the up and comer at the time and Tyson beat him twice...this was a Tyson that didn't have the same skills as he had with Rooney...he didn't look like he wanted to fight, even though he did take training more serious than the Douglas fight...his concentration was still not there, just look at the fightes again and you can clearly see Tyson having a look of no interest when he was sitting in his corner to get instruction...Ruddock wouldn't be the same fighter afterwards.

I agree the Spinks fight was a pretty big deal, IMO it was Tyson's biggest win. But one question, did Spinks look like Spinks in that fight?
I agree that alot of people do hate on Tyson, and part of it is probably because he has such a loyal following that would pick him against anyone no matter what. I think he was a good fighter too, my biggest problem with him as a fighter is that he had such a short "prime" becasue of all the stuff that happened to outside the ring. I just hate when people get on here and say things about fighters that they don't know to be true. So, I picked on his idol lol

At least my boy skelton can actually fight. He doesn't have to pretend he's a hardman while standing behind a mic.

This guy shows up once every three months and makes a derogatory post about "Sloppiano" to get a rise out of people. Just don't bother responding. I'm surprised there are people that actually agree with him, but the next time one of these threads starts, just let it die.

I think part of it is that Mike Tyson, like Bo Jackson, were phenoms that burnt out to quickly...they lived on through there short careers that were so awesome to watch that you couldn't forget the feeling it gave you when you saw them perform...it also helped having two of the most popular video games, Mike Tyson's punchout, and Tecmo Bowl, have your skills so amped up you thought they were Gods.

I remember the commercials for the Tyson/Spinks PPV with Donald Trump, Spinks line was "Thank you Mr.Trump, lets see who's the real Champ" and Tyson line was "Thank you Mr. Trump, lets see who's the real Chump"

To answer your question, no Spinks didn't have enough time to look like himself, it was a short fight and he got knocked out with one punch. The Tyson that fought Spinks would've been tough for any heavyweight in history to beat, that Tyson was scary!

Even Spinks's promoter Butch Lewis said when he went into Tyson's locker room, Tyson was hitting and putting wholes in the walls because he was so pissed off...Butch said "That Tyson, nobody could have beaten"...Butch was scared ****less that his fighter had to go up against Mike after seeing this. He said Mike was so determined to win the fight because he knew, that everything that he had worked for up to this moment, was do or die, it was everything, it was his legacy, he had to win.
