I just wonder what the like of Julio Cesar Chavez would have done in that scenario. My bet is that they would have tried to overcome what the problem was the first time around, and if they couldn't, getting put out on his shield wouldn't have been a price he'd have been unwilling to pay.

Did you lose respect for Barrera in the Juarez rematch?
79Yes, he didn't even try to stand with Juarez, and that's not the Barrera I know.17.72%14No, he did what he had to do to get the Pacquiao fight that he wants next year.82.28%65Tags: None -
Nah.. Barrera did the right thing.. Took Juarez to school. Barrera still has it man. Who ever lost respect in Barrera lost it because they know **** about boxing. Just look and like those one dimensonal fighters. That look for Ko's then they get schooled like Quintana did with Julio and many other fighters that got schooled. -
Barrera dominated a one dimensional Juarez, maybe some people are let down that it wasnt a bloody fight with multiple knockdowns, but i dont see why they would loose respect for him. If anything Barrera found a easier way to win, its not like he quit on his stoole or fought dirty.Comment

You don't think it was a bait and switch? I doubt that if Barrera had said, or Golden Boy had allowed him to say to the press beforehand that he intended to beat Juarez with one hand and give him a boxing lesson, that nearly 11 thousand people would have turned up to see it, nor would the PPV have sold anywhere near what it probably has.Originally posted by UndefeatedNah.. hell no, Barrera did a great job, his jab was near-perfect and his movement for his age was equally impressive. He took Juarez completely out of the fight..
if you're really that upset, you're can't be much of a "boxing" fan..
btw, both those poll options are pretty biased against Barrera, so i didn't pick either..Last edited by restless_438; 09-20-2006, 10:35 PM.Comment

It's more like I lost respect for Juarez. He's the young lion and it's his responsibility to take it to Barrera. Juarez was afraid to take risks.
Barrera did the right thing, to preserve some gas in the tank for the Pacquiao fight. The blame's all on Juarez, IMO.Comment

I lost a tad bit of respect for Juarez at his post-fight comments, although i can understand his frustration, he should be upset with himself, first and foremost..Originally posted by SuckaPunchIt's more like I lost respect for Juarez. Not upset. Just wondering how people are looking at this now as it looked like an exercise in self-preservation.Originally posted by restless_438hell no, Barrera did a great job, his jab was near-perfect and his movement for his age was equally impressive. The poll options are not biased, they're the truth. Barrera did what he had to do to get the Pacquiao fight and that meant not engaging Juarez.
Sad but true.Comment

It's nothing new. It's like when Morales lost to Raheem, he used the excuse "He didn't want to fight" BS. If you're opponent wants to box, then force him into a fight. Cut off the ring, make it rough, throws punches between clinches, do something.Originally posted by restless_438I lost a tad bit of respect for Juarez at his post-fight comments, although i can understand his frustration, he should be upset with himself, first and foremost..
If everything doesn't work, then the fighter without a Plan B deserved to lose. In this case, Juarez absolutely didn't have a Plan B. He expected Barrera to be like the one in the first fight. Not smart.Comment
