It appears the pay-per-view rematch between middleweight champion Jermain Taylor and challenger Winky Winky has fallen apart, and Taylor has decided to go with fomer junior middleweight champion Kassim Ouma. Wright was offered a guarantee of $5-million, which was not enough to make the fight happen. [details]
**** you stinky first you dont reply to my email than this. Grrrr
We don't know the whole deal; how fair is it that Taylor in this offer would be entitled to a disporportionate amount of more money, not to mention probably a vast majority of gate and PPV upside.
The $5 mill guarantee is much like Arum's $8 mill offer to PBF, it looks GREAT on paper, so the promoters put it out there to the media. The media and message boards eat it up, and now you have a fighter who absolutely must be AFRAID of this fight because he won't take the offer. Well, we don't see all the particulars. There's all kinds of negotiation points in these contracts, including promoter options and what not. I'm not saying DiBella wants options (and Arum said there were no options for PBF in the Margarito offer), but there are just so many things we don't hear about.
But I think this instance is based on DiBella shaping a good deal for Winky and an awesome deal for Taylor, and DiBella has all the leverage here--they have the fight with Ouma ready to go. Winky, based on thinking he won the first fight (and the official result still being a draw, not a loss), wants more of a fair share. He's backed off demanding parity, but he surely wanted to see how much more he could get. Greed? Sure, but that's LIFE, not just boxing. He and Jim Wilkes clearly didn't expect DiBella to slam the door shut after they wouldn't take the offer.
I'm sure they are disappointed, as am I and all boxing fans, but they'll both win again this winter and then meet next spring for an even bigger event, more money to be shared, and we move on.
The thing is, the 5 million to fight the Linear middleweight on HBO PPV after one great, competitive fight makes SENSE.
8 million for Floyd to fight a no name paper champion on showtime just doesnt make any sense at all.
Winky is going to end up loosing to a bum. He almost got his ass handed to him by soliman (don't know how you spell it). Who else is he going to fight in the division that will attract that much money. He is pulling the same **** Hopkins did after Trinidad and not cash in on his win.
First off, he did not lose to Soliman, he clearly won that fight.
In addition to this, Winky has the ability to fight at 160 and 154, so he has many options open to him. I wouldnt mind seeing him stay at 160 and fight Pavlik or someone like that.
How can you be sick of Taylor?
I can understand not liking his team, but Jermian is a class act who takes on the best.
Jim Lampley and HBO make it real hard to like Taylor with all their ballwashing. But as you stated, the kid is a complete class act. One of the classiest in the sport.
