All we need now is for John Ruiz to drop down to middleweight. It would be a smart career move for him, he might actually be in the top half of the so called upper echelon fighters there in terms of entertainment value.

Jermain Taylor To Face Kassim Ouma - Wright Lost IMO

It appears the pay-per-view rematch between middleweight champion Jermain Taylor and challenger Winky Winky has fallen apart, and Taylor has decided to go with fomer junior middleweight champion Kassim Ouma. Wright was offered a guarantee of $5-million, which was not enough to make the fight happen.

The Associated Press reports that the fight will take place on December 9 at Alltel Arena in North Little Rock. The fight will be televised live on HBO.

HBO has a date of December 2 reserved for Wright, who may face former welterweight champion Ike Quartey.

No, years ago when Mosley was on top Wright turned down an opportunity to take on Mosley for the title because he felt the money wasnt right. In jumps a guy named Vernon Forrest and the rest is history. Had he taken this fight, he could have been champ long ago and go that HBO deal that Vernon got, in a word the money would have gotten right.

I'm hoping he doesn't. People are acting as if Taylor is a master boxer with devastating power, which he isn't. I think we will see improvement in this fight because he will have had more time with Manny, but as much as I like Taylor I have to admit he's, at best, a diamond in the rough.
I can see it taking a few rounds for him to be able to adjust to the constant barrage of punches from Ouma and losing the early rounds.
Taylor doesn't have the devastating one-punch power to keep Ouma off of him, and Ouma is tough as nails. He will keep throwing pesky little punches which Taylor will have to defend while trying to mount an offense of his own.
In a lot of ways I think this may be a tougher fight than the Wright rematch. Wright hits just as lightly, and lacks the volume of Ouma.

Good post.. i think people are going to be pretty shocked at how close this fight might actually end up being.

I can understand not liking his team, but Jermian is a class act who takes on the best.
I will give him props for that, and I am not saying that he isn't a good guy. I just think he is overhyped and hasn't shown me anything as much as he has been hyped. I feel that HBO is trying to push him to be there next golden child as soon as Oscar retires and I just don't see it in him. HBO has brought him up with a silver spoon in his mouth, and I just don't think he is as good as he has been made out to be, until he proves otherwise. I'm not saying he doesn't have talent and potential, but as of now I think he has just been overhyped. I will give him props for taking on the best competition out there.
