Fitness and conditioning is an essential part of boxing. You can have all the skill in the world but if you don't do work roadwork you will be at a serious disadvantage. Toney is lucky that Peter was grossly out of shape himself because he would have been stopped if Peter had the wind to finish what he started in the 5th.

I think there still would have been an argument, a large number of people think Toney won. But it just wouldn't have been as terrible if the scores were closer...

I agree, but you also have to acknowledge skill. Most boxing experts consider Toney an alltime great fighter, and theres reasons why. One is his skill in the ring...

Listen, Walcott, Charles, and Moore had skill but they also had a TON of heart and were all obsessed with their own fitness and conditioning. Archie Moore claimed he could do over a hundred pullups as a young man, and he was the softest of the three physiquewise. Walcott had the torso of an action figure, and Charles was always lean and sinewy throughout his career. Any of these guys would laugh at the shape Toney came into this fight in.

          Skill isn't enough in boxing.

Toney has heart, and everyone knows it because he has shown it in the past(including last night). You degrade Toney's career off fitness but even without fitness 87% of this site says he beat Peter last night. So would he have been even greater in better shape? Yes. Was he great without being in shape? Yes.

werent you the guy that said that Peter would "eliminate" or "blow out" Toney in under 4 rounds ? Peters mammoth punching power would be the difference ? lol.

Give the man his props and quit being a sore loser.

He must have gotten Toney Galento's roadwork and diet plan mixed up with Charles's counterpunching and Walcott's shoulder roll.
While Toney is not the most telegenic fighter of all time physique-wise, give the man his props. While Charles and Walcott were great fighters, they weren't the only great fighters. If you remember Larry Holmes was never cut, so physique isn't everything.

What you can't take away from the man is that he is an all time great and a first ballot hall of famer. His career achievements thusfar are far surpassing anything that Sam Peter and the power that you are high on will ever approach. Toney is an incredible fighter and will be remembered for what hes done for a long time after Peter. Toney is one of the top 6-7 fighters of the last 15 years, a great era for boxing in retrospect.

i agree with this, there would've been cause for an argument regardless what the scores were, the fact that Peter was ahead period is the problem i have with, not to mention the how wide the scores actually were..

                  pretty decent article btw

yo Toney has skills but to avoid this situation he's gotta be able to knock some busters out.....ive never seen anyone get robbed after knocking the opponent out...hehe
i wanna see Toney with a rematch against Peter....and Toney on a new power program...but maintain that speed
