Interesting discussion, especially good points from K-Dogg.

Just came across this thread... a lot of intelligent points being debated back and forth throughout. Naturally, there's a bit of flaming, but this is a real old school thread that relies on DISCUSSION, before the likes of Sin and Diego****o started ruining this place again.

Lennox Lewis was a great champ. But I dont hold his wins over Holyfield and Tyson in very high regard, cause both where way past their primes.

I wish Lennox would come back and fight Vitali, you know you would watch it.

What I didn't like about him was in a lot of his fights he really didn't do anything like in the Holyfield fights. He did become a lot more exciting and dominant later in his career though. Those Holyfield fights just turned me off to him Cause he just didn't do **** in eather of those fights to earn championship status.

Lennox lewis is elite top 5. What did sonny liston do thats so signifcant, beat patterson twice, o wow. Joe Louis beat a bunch of cans and his best wins are schmeling and walcott for god's sakes, two guys that would get flat out owned by lennox. The only reason max is even a somebody is cuz he knocked joe the **** out and he was hitler's boy.

Lewis beat far more contenders than good ole rocky could ever dream of.

Because of his size, strength and skill I think he should always, always be in the top 5 when discussing matchups. Having said that, his resume is not very good and he did get caught by big punchers like Rahman, and Mccall. Who's to say that he wouldn't get caught the same by a punch from say Louis, Marciano, Dempsey, etc.

Here's my list, if anyone cares:

              1. Joe Louis
              2. Muhammed Ali
              3. Larry Holmes
              4. Jack Dempsey
              5. Joe Frazier
              6. George Foreman
              7. Rocky Marciano
              8. Lennox Lewis
              9. Jack Johnson
              10. Sonny Liston

I think that Lennox was a great, great champ, and would give plenty of HW's of the past fits.

But that being said, his wins over Tyson and Holyfield have always annoyed the hell outta me.

Head to head matchups don't mean a DAMN thing when discussing all-time fighters. It is all about your era and the wins you have and how you won. Basically, the competition you fought at your given era.

Tommy Hearns just might be the best welterweight ever due to his size, skill, and speed but I don't put him at the top because of his potential. That is unfair to the great fighters of the past.

Sweet, I was the 100th yes vote.

He was a great champion but I don't think hes top 10 of all time.

For matchups, size isn't everything, some fighters just saw that as a big target. This Mike Tyson the Third character (brownpimp) is something else.
