Comments Thread For: Make Sure There is a Hall of Fame to Attend in 2022 And Then...

by Cliff Rold - The 2021 International Boxing Hall of Fame was setting up to be a particularly special year. Due to COVID, the 2020 induction was to be combined with 2021. For fans who could make it to Canastota, they were in for a treat. Floyd Mayweather and Bernard Hopkins would have headlined a field that also included Juan Manuel Marquez, Shane Mosley, Wladimir Klitschko...

First step would be to reach out to these boxers who make millions fighting cans, and ask them for a donation.

I hope it survives... always been on my list of things to do when the wife eventually drags me to the states.

Surely they could do an online version? There must be some money in that for them?

yes but they're woefully behind in terms of their online presence and capabilities. they'd need a third party to step in, like a network or a media company or a promoter.

ideally the promotors and the established fighters would spearhead things. there's a lot of money in boxing still. properly marketed, enough moneyu could be raised virtually overnight i'd bet.

As a last resort I'd bet they'll work out something with Turning Stone

See this is what you get in a sport that gives no fooks about anything except money. A HOF that sounds like it might go outta business lol.

Boxing is, has been & will continue to be super ripe for a takeover by someone with a lot of money who can consolidate the sport like all other major sports have been consolidated. And that group that does it will multiply whatever wealth they have by 10x or more & fans will come back to boxing in droves when boxing makes as much sense outta the ring as in the ring or basically it gets up to par with every other major sport finally.

Why do you think TS would be interested in helping them out?

They're right next to each other and they both have been benefiting from each other for years. BHOF holds its events and fights at TS, TS gets to attach its name to big names in boxing that come through.

I used to live nearby & TS is hardly the Blue Horizon in its boxing prime. They hold like 2-4 fights a year usually iirc. Idk if thats enough of a commitment to throw them money...although idk how much money it takes to keep a HOF open so what do I know. If its cheap might not be much of an issue I suppose.

I've been praying for this for years.
