It's probably easier said than done though, isn't it? This idea of taking the best fights to elevate yourself above the pack?

Either a) you ain't clearly better than those around you in which case the odds are that in fighting two or three other guys in the 'queue' it's very likely you take an L which drops you out of the sweepstakes... And bear in mind even if you're willing to take that chance the other guys of your level are making the same calculation.

Or b) you are clearly - or believe you are clearly - a step ahead of the other guys competing for a Canelo slot, in which case why the **** would they fight you knowing that an L would drop them out of contention for the biggest payday they'll ever see?


Way I see its the way the sport's structured that's the problem.. The Vegas Superstar model I call it, which distorts everything around one or two particular fighters to ensure the money keeps rolling in... Thing is in the long run it's damaging to the sport as a whole to my eyes. When you got a situation where a fighter can earn more in one fight than possibly in the entire rest of their career combined it's not hard to see why they become averse to doing anything that might put that at risk. Point being getting the Wins doesn't guarantee you the shot anyway, but taking an L drastically reduced your chance of getting the call.

They meant to say that the punching bag line forms here. Charlo, Andrade, Benavidez and Bivol wont ever be on that list.

When is Bivol going to fight Beterbiev?

When are Charlo and Andrade going to fight each other?

Better yet instead of crying about Canelo, why don't they make power moves? Plant should easily win on Saturday, are any of them going to be there to secure a fight with Plant in May to secure a fight with Canelo in September?

None of them are taking any sort of risk, all they hope is to land that Canelo payday.

The thing is most these guys know full well they have no chance to land Canelo fight anytime soon,but they're fans use it as an excuse anyways. Its sickening that all these supposed hungry Young lions have zero intention of taking risks & making money along the way of waiting for the payday.

Canelo doesnt get held to a higher standard,these guys aren't held to ANY standard,theres a difference.

They get to sit around talking big, without doing anything & Canelo is said to be ducking them. Its funny really

I have been saying this all along. Every time there is a superstar in certain weights the top fighters that are in striking distance play it safe waiting for that phone call.

The divisions will lack meaningful matchups because all the waiting around for life changing purse that Canelo can provide.

As good as a superstar is for the sport the hardcore fans get denied the matchups that they crave because of the posturing for that one fight.

Why doesn't he just do what mayweather did from 04-15 and fight the big names back to back I love that it's ok for Saunders and yildirim to bring nothing to the table and get a fight but charlo needs to be inducted into the hof before he gets a fight.

Its very possible, but I hope Canelo doesn't avoid Charlo forever. Do Charlo vs. Golovkin. Let the winner negotiate a fight with Canelo

Because he isn’t a star like Mayweather was. When Mayweather fought the average person on the street and certainly the sports fan knew about it. Canelo isn’t as popular as the boxing specific media makes him out to be. No one on the street talks about Canelo fights since he has moved to dayzin. Hence why he is making less than the originally contracted 35m. If Canelo loses, particular as washed as he was against Mayweather, that hurts his brand even more. He knows he only has big money fights as long as there is an aura of invincibility. When Mexican American fans (his fanbase) stop watching him, he’s done. When he stops fighting on dayzin, their subscriptions will plummet. PPV will be their only option to stay afloat in the USA as they literally have nothing else any American sports fan wants to see. Canelo is in a position where he literally has to keep winning otherwise boxing promoters will have to create a new star
