So while his brothers were getting slaughtered, he was in his mansion living the good life and impregnating women all day.

How anyone can respect this guy is bizarre.
    - -Ali weren't living in mansions, he was just expressing his right as an American citizen.

I was against the war, but sadly too many protesters were against our conscript soldiers that Ali would've been had he not fought the draft.

Exonerated by the Supreme Court, so just be glad them times is gone.

The reasons listed is why Ali is great.

He has spirituality and integrity. Lost on today’s tech no logic society.

Vietnam was a ****** war, those who fought in it noble yet equally ****** but the ones that defend it are yellow bus idiots.

Brah, wars ******. On one hand, they make you believe you're fighting for your country. On the other than, it's mostly rich white dudes sitting comfortable in an office making decisions that will make them or the country wealthier. They flip it into making you think you are doing something along the lines of freedom or for your county but all their doing is using the youth of the nation to go out and die for them to get richer.

I would say war and it's principles of necessity are if we were being invaded or about to be invaded, that's a good reason. Or in the case that you see another country eating up other countries for the bad and you see it can eventually spread over to your country, perhaps it's a good idea to fight that (WW2). Though starting trouble with other countries and sending troops to their slaughter with no real objective other than "potential" future problems, that sounds more like, "we need something and we'll send in the troops to get it".

Listen, the troops are brave for all they do for the country and I respect that, but I also feel bad for them when a lot of them are brain washed at a young age. What we have often are bad leaders making bad decisions and reasons to get troops on foreign grounds when they shouldn't be.

You can't knock Ali if he didn't agree with the war and would rather not have fought in it. I kind of don't blame him. Why should he die for something he doesn't believe in just because it's the "American" thing to do? Just because you don't agree with something a politic leader believes in does not make you non-American.

His country couldn't even stand for his race or religious beliefs and that wasn't enough? Mistreated in your own country and then expect someone to go and fight in a war? While killing innocent children and people in the process. wow.

He preferred to not have an income for 3 years rather then fighting some war, that most of the soldiers didn't even know what they are fighting for, while some others didn't even know that it finished.

Why? If your country is not fulfilling it's duties towards you then why should you be obligated to fulfill your duties towards that country?

Besides the war was started not to 'contain communism' or whatever bullchit was the pretext - the Vietnamese were basically fighting a Nationalist anti-colonial war - it was started as part of the effort towards building the global economic hegemony (with the US at it's helm) which we know today as Globalism... had the American people at the time known the real reasons I'd say it's highly likely everyone else would have refused to fight too.

That’s why now in hindsight, a lot of people look back and actually see what Ali did as courageous
Again, during war, one must set aside their petty differences.
