He gets no respect from me at all.
I agree with you. I actually liked him, his brashness his carefully crafted, supposedly ad-lib verses and all that BOOMPF, .....It seemed all in fun.......

But when he took such disgusting advantage with the Cleveland Williams fight, with the poor guy, basically straight from the cotton fields, was paralysed in one leg, had 9 ft. of intestines missing, no spleen one kidney, and all that massive damage done by the policemen's unwarranted shooting of a defenceless man,....AND...had died on the operating table three times, was 6 months in hospital, etc. On top of all that, it is ALWAYS described as Ali's most "perfect fight"... I almost vomit. That was IT for me.

The anti-Americanism+ was another nasty trait; the guy was an illiterate tool, but a WILLING tool, and is to be condemned for that. The adulation and admiration came because of the jealousy and hatred of the United States as the most powerful and advanced nation in the world. Other countries, although paying lip service, and knowing where to come to get freely given help, envy and are jealous of the US. The Vietnam War was a poor second reason.

Also it was the era of "rebellion" parent hatred, free love, pot passed around, and much more. They all seemed to coincide and coalesce.

Nobody who loved Ali seems to recall that America's most unpopular War was begun by the "beloved" Kennedy, and doubled down on by his successor Johnson. I knew about the huge coming troop buildup before almost anyone, as I knew a lady I played tennis with, who was in the State Dept. . She told me, when there were only about 5,000 "advisors" there, that there would be many more, maybe up to about a half mill. And she was right on the mark.

So Ali's clowning and defiance of the US gave him and unmerited reputation. He was NO Martin Luther King, but the antithesis of that deservedly merited mam.

It is my shame, that he was strongly defended, and made into an icon, by Howard Cosell, a *** like myself, but unlike me in every meaningful way.

But instead he spoke out against the war and refused to fight in it.

So while his brothers were getting slaughtered, he was in his mansion living the good life and impregnating women all day.

How anyone can respect this guy is bizarre.
Listen, I get your point but that was not a war. A war is when our enemies land on our shores. I would fight for that and still fight for him if he DIDT want to fight, cause I admire a man who has such strong COMMON SENSE& morals.
“Aint no China man ever did anything to me”, but I cant say the same about AMERICANS- Ali

As a matter of fact YES HE DID. When Ali was banned Frazier supported him financially and publicly. Look how Ali repaid the man, Ali was a POS.

Because he gave him some money out if the goodness of his heart right? It wasn't to get some good publicity and to try and force Ali to fight him when he eventually got his licence re-instated?

Frazier couldn't wait to tell the media that he was supporting Ali, only he refused to call him Muhammad or Ali and instead continued to call him Clay (which he knew infuriated Ali).

Ali spent a great deal of time and money giving to others, supporting the poor and literally saving people. What did Frazier do with all his fortune? He wasted it away on himself and on ****** things.

Years on Ali had apologised multiple times and tried to reconcile with Frazier. What did Frazier do? He boasted in a documentary about giving Ali parkinsons and was glad that he did.

But you think Ali is the POS? Lol nonsense

The OP just sounds salty that the US failed and North Vietnam won.
