Wilder's sole focus being Fury is contradicted by Sports Illustrated quoting a source 'familar with the discussions' that he is in preliminary talks to fight Charles Martin in Q1.

Also Finkel said this :

"If we can’t get the Fury fight, Deontay needs to be active. If it’s the worst case scenario, we are going to be prepared to get him back in the ring.”

Probably true to say his main focus is getting a rematch with Fury. Clearly not his only focus if he has a backup plan.

Fury avoided a rematch with Klistchko possibly because he feared immediately giving back the HW crown. He's already fought Wilder twice and did better the second time. The reason Wilder isn't getting the rematch is because he didn't want to fight in December and because he has been such a bad loser after the last fight. Wilder is his own worst enemy.

The reason why there hasn't been a fight is because of the pandemic, Fury's own promoter Bob Arum, Fury's own network ESPN and Fury himself.

First, Arum wanted it postponed to December 19th 2020 because of the pandemic:

Well, since Wilder has been put down the pecking order and now with absolutely no Fury 3 fight in direct sight, this is a good oppertunity to fight the winner of Whyte-Pov and put himself instantly back in the mix with a view to fighting the AJ Fury winner.

Good fight too. 50/50 for me now considering the Fury loss and the appearance of Wilder being completely mentally flawed this last year.

If Whyte sparks Pov (or the reverse) clean out, i'm not sure Wilder will want it.

Whyte was too scared to fight AJ for 4 world titles last year.
Theres no way Whyte goes near a puncher like Wilder, for zero world titles, after being KO'd by a 40 year old.

Would love to see that fight happen though. Would be fitting end to Whytes awful career to witness him decapitated by Wilder.

Whyte is an irritating talker. Entertaining? Yes. But irritating all the same. People didn't like that he was being put in the way of a potential Wilder/Joshua clash back in 2018...because even back then no one saw Whyte as really worth anything in a matchup. It stunk of Eddie playing games (he was...with Whyte's career no less) and it was apparent to anyone that he was a highlight reel KO that would ultimately be deemed as another bum on Wilder's record akin to Breazeale.

His loss to Povetkin made it abundantly clear to anyone and everyone who wasn't the typical crowd of Brit based Hearn bumlickers that he is a shockingly poor fighter whilst lacking the kind of get-out clause that another technically poor fighter like Wilder has.

Level playing field? This is why your suggestion that they can settle their differences in the rings is BS. Fury could beat him in a third fight and Wilder would trot out all his excuses again, because he is deluded.

Newsflash: his water bottle was not tampered with. The gloves were checked by a commission rep and Wilder's own team observed them being put on. His ring costume was his own idea and 40lbs for a ring walks shouldn't sap a grown man's strength. The ref if anything did Wilder a favour by docking a point from Fury. Breland probably saved him from lasting damage.

They haven't yet met on a level playing field because both fights have been in Deontay Wilder's home country with American referees both times.

As far as who wants to fight who, I will grant you it is possible Wilder still wants the fight. Arum's team obviously feel something has lapsed in the contract.

It was Wilder claiming he wasn’t ready in April because of an injury . That’s nine months before any postponement. And Wilder said he wouldn’t be ready until the end of 2020, he had this planned all along anyway . He was stalling Furys career .
