He wasn't green at all. He showed us the same stuff in the Trout fight he shows us in all his other fights today.

Mayweather schooled Canelo. Stop crying about a 2 lbs catchweight. It's 2 freakin lbs. You don't lose all 12 rounds because of 2 lbs. Canelo could have been 160 in that fight and still get dominated.

Number 2 Jr middleweight behind Floyd that put 40,000 in the Alamo Dome. Not to mention WBC/WBA belt holder. That kind of resume gets you a call from Floyd Mayweather.

I think two things can exist together. Canelo was in his prime, but didn't have quite the experience. Fought mostly bums until Jose Cotto/Baldo/Trout, etc.

                2nd option.

He certainly wasn’t green, a five fight novice with limited amateur experience is green. A 43-0 world champion isn’t green.

He definitely wasn’t in his prime either both in terms of physical and technical prowess. The Floyd loss massively improved Canelo. It likely humbled him and forced him to improve his game. He’s a far better fighter now.

He was an outstanding and already experienced boxer... that Floyd made look inexperienced.

That fight, for me, is all about how good Floyd was.

Canelo has improved since though, so no he wasn't at his prime yet. That fight shouldn't define his career at all.
