Dog out - as in he had to get really gritty and 'dirty' and dig in to pull the fight out. Even his fight with Edwin Rodriguez was like that. Bika and Barrera as well. Did you really watch those fights, be honest. He wasn't putting on any Marquess de Queensberry schooling in those contests.

FYI California is a huge state. If you're from Northern California Southern California is not your hometown. That's just ignorant.
I don't include facing a guy in Saint Lucia, in your 14th fight, as travelling. Nor should you. Here is a good rule. If you can't immediately name where and who a guy fought abroad, then it doesn't count as 'travelling'.

Now we are trying to say that he travelled because he travelled within California. Come on man. This is getting ridiculous.

If you like Ward and rate him, idgaf. But come on don't throw that junk out there.

You said Ward fought half his fights in Oakland which is a blatant lie. You said he never traveled. You obviously can't make your point without telling lies. I'm not wasting any more time with you tonight.

KO Power is not the end all and be all. If it was fighters like Pernell Whitaker and Mayweather would never have become 4 and 5 division champions.
I think the point here is superstar potential

Ward and Pernell weren't really considered that.

but to your point Mayweather became a superstar and his KOs stopped.

KOs however I feel can make it easier to be a super star.

He fought 23 out of 32 fights in Cali.

Starting with his first real fight, Miranda, he fought 8 out of 14 in Oakland.

Those are the facts man. What do you want

Exactly true, Ward should never be compared to women bouncer off-er Chickenson.

At least Adonis (who shared his namesake)grew up & stopped hitting(can't even call Stevensons catfight woman beating) young girls before becoming a pro fighter.

The thing is I felt ashamed for all of boxing when I watched Chickenson not only hitting women but even worse his punches didn't even phase them in any way or form(as i always say if he didn't want to hurt em like some ppl say then why would he have even punched them)

Shame because I would've given him benefit of the doubt about his power had I not seen him not even stutter a girl with his hook.

Boxing is evolving the technical skill is a lot higher today, it used to be you only got to be able to fight, now the top guys are mostly pure boxers.

I can't comment on Ward in the Olympics, I've never seen the footage. I have no real reason to doubt his medal being legit, but it is the Olympics, who knows.

Against lesser comp, Ward showed good boxing skills. Most guys in the ams that he was facing were probably not on his level, so he won those clean I'm sure. Maybe his run in the Olympics had guys who he could outclass.

But in the pros, when the comp was B or even C level and above, he just turned the fights into actual fights. They got dirty and there wasn't much boxing class shown in those.

I would know - I actually watched all of his relevant fights a few times in preparation for the Kov fight. I wanted to see who should have been favored going into that fight.
no ward was a master boxer! isnt it strange how he fights straight up against brand and paul smith(cept when he got rocked) but when the competition gets tough...here comes wrestler! remember edwin rodriguez was giving him hell and the ref threatened to take away rodriguez's purse if he didnt stop cheating...lmao! after that he immediately stopped trying. the rules never applied to ward only to his opponents and he knew that was free reign to cheat since his boxing wasnt that great. he new home court was decisive and thats why he refused to join the super six without it and after he gained more power he never relinquished it even for huge fights

It's not that he's boring, it's the fact that he still hasn't faced anyone that would make him show more of his arsenal. He doesn't look like he has power, same for Haney, but I'm pretty sure if they're ever involved in tough fights that they have a lot of dog in them and can deliver good fights. They need to up their level of competition though.

I disagree with this wholeheartedly, that "pure boxing" style wouldn't necessarily work against other great fighters unless you are really great at it. We don't know how great any of these young pure boxers are because they still haven't fought anybody.

Being a pure boxer doesn't equate skill all the time, some offensive fighters are more skilled than defensive fighters. It's about how effective you can be at the highest level.
