Potentially great fight with two caveats. Canelo does not get to fck around with anything to do with weight, Smith is hard against the rail already. Secondly, if Smith isn’t in really good shape right now, there isn’t enough time to get in great shape in the time remaining.

I think it's just an over-correction on the evaluation of Smith after his robbery win against John Ryder.

We had him overrated before that, and afterwards he's become underrated.

I think you’re right. A lot of people underestimate how good Ryder is too based on his record.

This is a tough fight for Canelo, he’s the favourite as he would be over anyone at 168 but it’s still a tough matchup.

It's not a cherry pick but I would've been much more excited about this fight before I saw Smith's performance against Ryder. Ryder straight up got robbed in that fight.

But Smith is still a top level guy and just because Ryder got the best of him doesn't mean he won't have a better showing against Canelo.

This about sums it up. Also, it’s the fact we know smith’s bad showing vs Ryder no doubt factored into him being selected as canelo’s opponent, that leaves a bit of a bad taste. Calling it a “cherrypick” is taking things way too far though.
