Just To Be Clear On Exactly Who Moved The Trilogy Dates

Unlike some folks posting here, I don't have amnesia. A few quotes...

    March 24:

"You could not guarantee the fighters that the event would take place on that date," Arum said. "We couldn't convince them or ourselves. Where were they going to train for it? It just made no sense. You just have to take a step back. How are you going to sell tickets? It's absolutely ridiculous to say the fight is on when the Brits can't even get there."

The third fight between Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury will not take place on July 18 as originally scheduled because of the coronavirus pandemic.

    April 28th:

"Bob Arum told SiNow he informed Tyson Fury that a third fight between Fury and Deontay Wilder would not take place until "November/December" at the earliest. Gate for Fury-Wilder II accounted for $17 million of the total revenue."

    August 10th:

"And last week, Whyte's promoter Eddie Hearn issued a warning - stating that Fury-Wilder must happen in 2020 or he will push for Whyte to get his mandatory shot.

But Arum is not the least bit worried - and indicates that Hearn tells him something totally different when they speak in private.

“The WBC approved the trilogy contract and that provides for postponements. And certainly, if you can’t do it with spectators, a reasonable postponement would be okay. It’s a different kind of fight. The Fury vs Wilder fight in the United States is a major, major fight."

    And also August 10th:

“All I know is that we are not ingrates. Tyson Fury, Top Rank, we were given the opportunity by Wilder… How do you turn your back on Wilder? That would be absolutely improper. gain, our goal is to do Fury and Wilder, and then if Fury wins, to go right to a Joshua fight plus a rematch. That’s where we stand. It would be an absolute travesty. All these mandatories, schmandatories. People are looking for what the public wants."

Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum, who co-promotes WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, is confident that nothing will derail the trilogy fight with Deontay Wilder. Fury, with or without the world title, is contractually bound to fight Wilder next. In February, he stopped Wilder in seven rounds to capture the WBC title. Wilder would then exercise his contractual option to an immediate rematch.

    September 30th:

“We’re moving off because there’s five conference championship games that day and night, plus two NFL games,” Arum said. “So we can’t go with the 19th; we’re looking at other dates right now because ESPN advised us, and Fox advised the PBC [which promotes Wilder].”

    Also September 30th:

“It’s definitely Allegiant Stadium,” Arum said. “The Raiders are on board, the city is on board, the convention authority is on board. Everybody is on board.”

None of this has been about Wilder delaying, showing any reluctance, or asking for any favors whatsoever. And by all reports, he's in great shape right now.

    Hope this helps...

Whoever is to blame, I still don't think I have any interest in a trilogy.

Yeah, this lines up with reality; Arum is saying that the money isn't there to make the fight without fans.

Wilder would make more to take step-aside money (if that's what he did) and fight a tomato can on Showtime than to fight Fury without fans on PPV in 2020. Haymon is not going to take a bath on this fight again, so it's probable he advised Wilder to let it be.

Wilder doesn't want to get his ass beat, AGAIN. that's why he's twerking and hasn't mentioned the damn fight.

Shirley Winkle and the rest of that bunch want to cash Wilder out a 3rd time and wring the absoloute last cent out of him but Wilder himself ain't keen.

Putting Wilder in with Fury again is borderline cruel, it would be like throwing Lacy back in with Calzaghe after their fight, the only reason wouldn't be for the good of the fighter but to CASH OUT

Don’t care. Fury whooped him twice, one more severe than the other. I dont have an interest in it tbh

Because of Covid, the deadline for the rematch was extended from July to December. Wilder has a legally binding rematch clause, which means his team could force Fury to fight him this year, if they wanted it to happen.

They aren't doing anything to make it happen, which means they agree with Bob Arum. Without a live gate, there isn't enough money in it for them.

Why isn't he enforcing his rematch clause then?

                  Exactly.

This isn't difficult to follow. Off course both fighters will want to maximise their money, but only one of them actually has a contractual obligation to fight.

If Wilder wants the fight, then he can have it. Or Fury can spend the best years of his career in court before paying Wilder.
