Are we seeing the end of American boxing?

What happened to boxing in the United States? Growing up in the 90s we had so many great fighters. Roy Jones Jr, Mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield, Oscar De La Hoya, Fernando Vargas, Shane Mosley, Floyd Mayweater + countless other great champions.

What happened? Why dont we rule pro boxing anymore? We ruled pro boxing for decades. What went wrong? Are we witnessing the end of Boxing in America?

I don't think it's the end for boxing here in America. It is more like a decline. There aren't as many great stars today as there have been in the past so the popularity of the sport has dwindled as a consequence. I have confidence that future stars will develop and when that happens interest in the sport will increase again

I did not mean boxing as in general but "American Boxing"

No. The USA still has the most world champions and Los Vegas is still the most important boxing city in the world. Good boxers from all around the world relocate to America to be trained by American trainers and live and fight in america. We don't completely dominate boxing like we used to long ago but we are still a major player with the most world champions of any country.

No, in fact the US amateur system is much stronger than it has been in the last 10-15 years. US boxing will always be good, just won't completely dominate with other countries now more involved in the sport...And that's how it should be.

I mean, it's not like it used to be in the past but will it ever get there again? Most athletic kids growing up in America I think are trying to become basketball, football, baseball players. I don't think they think about boxing unless they grew up around it or have the right ingredients for it. If not that then they'll probably think more into the MMA idea these days than boxing. MMA has TONS of white fighters and they and their friends can relate to it more so than boxing where it is dominant primarily by black and hispanic fighters. If the white kid himself isn't inspired, then he probably has a friend or two or three that is into MMA and could get his friend into it.

Still plenty of top American fighters and most of the biggest fights still take place in the US. Its just a bit more mixed now than it used to be, which is not really a bad thing. With all the ****ing belts and divisions out there theres enough room for everyone.
