    Did Joshua QUIT vs Ruiz?

I just watched the fight again and I still can't be 100% sure

I did see a guy who was mentally and physically fatigued.

It looked to me like he spit the gumshield to try and buy time.

When the ref waved him forward he did nod but he seemed to be pretty out of it and not exactly foaming at the mouth

I'm not 100% either way, it looked to me like if the ref said fight on he would have but he also wasn't bothered if the ref did stop it.

I do think he did not belive he could win from that position.

Nah, ironically he and Wilder lost their 0's by being clipped on the top/side of the head. Fight was over after the first KD in both cases.

Joshua walked out there looking for the KO and got caught in the exchange, could happen to anyone. When the fight was stopped, he just wasn't "all there." I wouldnt say he quit.

THats a good question. I agree about it building more time to recuperate. I think the last time I saw a guy milk quicker recuperation for breathing was DeGale vs Jack if I’m not mistaken. Sometimes they are tactics for the ref to milk more time for the fighter and think of a different rhythm with the seconds provided. When you’re on the back foot hurt seconds can feel like minutes as you try to think what you need to do to offset your guy who’s pressings. Then there’s also construed breathing. Blood from the noise and mouth, sometimes it just feels right to spit your guard out.

Regarding AJ, I think he’s like Wilder, they’ll just keep fighting until it’s stopped. I’d say PURE QUITING are those Loma stoppages tbh.

Yeah temple blasts on the cranium are brutal. it’s just weird how the brain is more affected from the rear or top. Even in sparring they affect. The front bone of the skull is the best place to get hit. At least for me personally. It’s got the most resistance. For example if Canelo had hit trout right on the forehead with that cross I don’t think he would’ve crumbled. His chin got rocked from the front which cause a storm of nerves to response and feel disoriented.

Like the Garcia v Khan fight (Stoppage), the referee are trained to see something in a fighters eyes. Joshua and Khan might not clear eyed but they weren't there, it was merely instinct that was keeping them going. I love the referee stoppage of both the Khan and Joshua fight in the Garcia and Ruiz fight respectively. You can say the fighter quit if you want to, but i think their bodies had enough mentally and physically. The fighter in a boxer would never want to quit sometimes, but your team, the doctors at ringside and the ref can make that decision for you.

Not sure. He picked himself up off the canvas multiple times but the ref made the split second judgement call from his body language that he was done. The mouth guard and turning his back thing might have been him wanting the ref to call it, or he might have just been disorientated. If it had gone on I dont think he had any chance of regrouping though.

I've seen many of ruiz kos and Josh defeat didn't resemble them.
He didn't quit, he was trying to recover. He was smiling and being poker faced. This is new to him he didn't realised how it looked and the refs intention

                    Yeah, without actually saying it

He mentally checked out, spat out his gum shield and waited to be stopped by the ref

He wanted out and got his wish

                    He quit
