I think it was obvious even before this. His fight with Parker was razor thin and effected by the headbutt. His first fight with Chisora could have gone either way on the scorecards, and the rematch was a few minutes away from being in the same position. Hes game and a solid HW but hes part of that Ruiz/Parker/Ortiz/Povetkin/Pulev/Hunter 2nd tier group.
Can we all agree that Whyte was never on the Fury-AJ elite level?

And just to add that he should have been given the chance to either prove he was at their level, or fail. He certainly earned that opportunity.
Look at some of Wilder's mandatories over the last few years. Either undeserving or he simply chose them himself. Criminal from WBC.Comment

Fun fact time: Before AJ came on the scene, the HW division was barren and considered trash with no good fighters, that included the overrated 'Wlad' (who had dominated in the 'weakest era' ever) and uncoordinated 'Fury'. Fury beating Wlad didn't make much noise and the division was still considered trash.
It was only after AJ beat the old Wlad that the division really became massive - because for AJ to be great they could no longer claim Wlad was some bum, or else that would make AJ nothing more than a bum beater (who beat an inactive 41 year old bum). When we talk about how good AJs resume is, it's funny to remember that we only consider those fighters good because Eddie Hearn is a master at promotion and was able to convivnce the masses that these guys were any good to begin with. It was generally accepeted that guys like Whyte, Parker, Ruiz hell even Takam were not very good. But after AJ came on the scene they needed to finally start building guys up to make their guy seem greater than he really is.
Amazing how in the space of a couple years the HW division went from having 100 fans with the general masses not caring and other boxing fans saying it ****** b@lls to then being some killer division with so many great fighters and a 3-headed dragon in AJ, Wilder, and Fury (Wilder still 'to this day' is called a bum to give you an idea). Back when Fury was on top after dethroning Wlad, people would laugh at the idea of 'bums' like Parker or Whyte ever holding a candle to Fury, but now there are actually people that were claiming Whyte would give Fury problems...it's crazy.
Being a HW fan pre-AJ to when AJ became Eddie's golden goose was almost like an overnight rewriting of history where everything was changed and you were the only one that remembered. Truly the power of promotion.Comment

Where are all the boxing experts like Tyistall claiming that Whyte is some elite beast?
I've been telling everyone for years, Dillian Whyte is garbage and always has been. As if Tyson Fury would ever duck that bum lol.
AJs win over Povetkin is also looking better and better, I think Fury destroys him, however I do respect AJs resume and work.
Fury fans called this result, there's a reason why we're the most knowledgeable HW fanbase.
I actually thought Whyte would win because Povetkin is shot, not because Whyte is any good. So it’s even funnier that a shot Povetkin ironed him out.
Whyte has never been that good. He’s never beaten a decent fighter without being in trouble in the fight himself. It was only a matter of time before someone finished the job anyway.
His real level is going life and death with guys like Chisora. Fringe contender level. We saw what Fury did to Chisora, that wasn't just styles, that was a huge difference in levels. Fury would do the same to Whyte.
AJ v Whyte is still a good 60/40 fight I think. Both vulnerable and can ****. Joshua being a slightly higher level but we’ve seen he can be beaten by a fighter that’s just pretty decent.Comment

But I get your point. Hearn is master of promotion and he made hw division much more popular with AJ hype.Comment

It was a good fight that he was on the verge of winning, and got caught by a devastating ko.
Boxing needs more of this. Fans need to stop writing fighters off after one defeat. Its pathetic. Its one of the reasons why the ufc is doing so well.Comment

Whyte will win the rematch if it happens so all talks about he’s a bum isn’t going to add up to much when only the real top guys a younger Wlad and AJ handed Povetkin unquestionable losses so Wilder and Fury will take credit here or dismiss him but like most of their fans they are very deluded because they themselves didn’t beat Whyte .Comment

You get head cases like the OP who would rather see Fury fight easy fights to call him the best ,these types are exactly why what you posted is true . They will make excuses why Whyte and AJ shouldn’t fight Fury or Wilder to protect their own fighters rep, fan boys kill boxing .Comment
