I don't think they were confident of beating Joshua either. They wanted to milk Wilder some more and try and cash out with a massive Joshua fight later.

Fury is the best of the heavyweights but the article says Top Rank loss money on the Fury fights. He’s no cash cow.

And now the deadzone USA is very nearly a thing of the past. Eddie Hearn doomed it from the beginning acting as if he were King George going to deal with those rustic colonials who need
To know their place and fall at the feet of the British empire. And the bigoted nationalistic “all lives matter” crowd is STILL angry and fuming at wilder for not letting either Eddie Hearn or the deadzone control his career and at the same
Time prop deadzone up via his fan base. Never understood why football hooligan piss up St George Cross waving council estate nationalists were and are so obsessed with being important to the Americans. When the deadzone launched, oh my my did the “empire” militants rant and rave and froth at the mouth about “American takeovers”....and look at Eddie Hearn and the deadzone now. Dismal failures in the USA.
Defeated by Al Haymon.....a coloured american bloke....and that’s what enrages the militants the most

Wilder certainly bet on himself. He thought he could beat Fury, get that money, and still come back for an even bigger offer (like Mayweather-Pacquiao) than $100m. That did not work out so, according to the article, he made close to $60m which assumes that the Fury-Wilder II fight pay for Wilder was eventually what was the gurantee and no more. Most outlets, however, suggested that $25m is minimum gurantee with a percentage of revenue in addition to that. IIf we believe the minimum, that leaves Wilder with a $40m potential loss.

When you bet, the possibility of an adverse outcome cannot be ruled out. It is a risk you must take. Wilder lost that bet as soon as he lost to Fury and the only way to comeback from this is to win the third fight and go for a big payday vs Joshua. Other possibly lucrative fight can be against Ruiz Jr.

Loads of fans arguing th etoss as to whether Wilder was an idiot for letting $40 million slipping through his fingers.

But ignoring that he has made $60 million from three fights.

The same loads of fans, who I very much doubt have even earned 1% of 60 million.

              Pointless article and argument.

oh, and the same fans (??) who argue whether a far superior fighter such as Roman Gonzalez deserves just $1 million for fighting a far better fighter in Estrada.

                ****** article imo.

Deontay and his team made decisions that they thought were correct at the time, it is what it is.

Wilder still has far more cash and fame than anyone who posts on here.

Had he signed it he would have $120 million guaranteed in the bank. Unfortunately he was scared to take that L and made 30% of that the last two years at best.

“But more likely, the lure of a big payday for an "easy" fight against Ruiz would have been too enticing for Team Joshua to pass up.”

Ruiz wouldn’t be in the picture had Wilder agreed to fight because that Breazeale fight was announced months Before In March , why would they jump looking for opponents anyway with Wilder attached instead of training for Wilder ? it’s no logic here .

If Wilder had signed then AJ doesn’t overlook Ruiz either with that huge fight next if that even played out like that and would probably have postponed that MSG date Which again makes no sense because the Miller fight was sc****d ,there were then at least 3 guys who turned the fight down , they’re not going to be fishing for opponents with Wilder already committed who had fought in May and AJ having a short training camp with risking the undisputed fight .

They didn't want any part of the AJ fight which even post Ruiz I can't call any better than that being a 50/50 for wilder

Anyway obviously it backfired massively and Wilder lost probs at least $50 million dollars and Fury ended up not being shot and being a worse opponent for Wilder than AJ

                      All in all a disaster

Yep, absolutely horrific miscalculation on their part trying to use Fury as leverage in AJ negotiations. You can just imagine them watching a tubby Fury go 10 rounds with Pianeta and thinking they were about to play a master stroke.
