    Lol

Dempsey’s slow wild one shot at a time style would be considered nothing more than a bar room brawler today plain n simple.

Look man those guys were considered good for they’re time a time when the talent was limited and the skill wasn’t there yet but now cmon man no way can they compete they get hurt badly.

    Use you’re damn eyes.

This is a childish silly troll discussion. You have to be an idiot to look at fighters from over 100 years ago and judge them on standards of today. Only people with no respect for the sport or the fighters themselves would even take this thread seriously.
Maybe you dont understand that lots of people think the old time fighters are as good as the modern eras, debating opinions is what forums are all about its no harm no foul, its no different dissecting the engineering of a TModel Ford and F1 race car, only nobody in their right mind would suggest the TModel could whip a F1 car, but thats what they do with fighters because they dont understand how the science and schooling today is so far advanced they think its only conditioning, today fighters are groomed from infants with so much knowledge and technique backing them up, this didnt happen back in the day, if you were tough could throw and take a punch you were in.

back in the day, every contender could fight off the back foot... every contender could fight on the inside...

now, we have champions who cannot do either of those things LMAO

and get this... casual idiots front up and call those guys great

this sport used to be full of old-school trainers/mentors... now it is riddled with mitt-men, and s&c coaches... and little/no genuine 15 round fighters in sight

boxing is far easier today... simply because life is much easier

30 pro fights, 25 of them vs scrubs... does not produce better, more well-rounded, fighters... than 200+ fights vs all comers

a certain fighter will retire soon, and he will be referred to as "great"... not just by his idiot fanbase, but also by some of the idiot media... without that fighter even being tested in his so-called 'prime'

that shlt is ridiculous tbh, fighters today are soft

Is Johnson getting any time to train? He was a high IQ fighter, a year of training, sparring, eating in the modern era and maybe he adapts well. Dempsey had some flaws and a lot of guys might catch him coming in, but that style would give AJ a panic attack win or lose

he would be a cruiser today

and yep, I would back him to beat Usyk

Usyk is still largely untested, with only about 15 fights under his belt

Dempsey could possibly even be a LHW today, cruiser at most

I think Johnsons technique would be destroyed by Usyk, its not that they dont have a fighters heart, its not that they cant be conditioned to modern standards, its their boxing it could not compete today, and if you change their technique you dont have them.

Fighters today are schooled from very young and given the teachings of time honing the techniques of time, the Johnsons era was prehistoric by comparison, this is why NOBODY fights like them, they be beaten badly if they did.

I completely disagree... Usyk was getting handled by Bellew, he is not this boxing master that people make out

Johnson was a beast, athletic, a GREAT puncher... and very very experienced... Usyk is just a pup compared to Johnson... you are reading far too much into old slow grainy highlight reels

we can agree to disagree... in a mythical matchup from any particular era, the groundwork would be the same

I dont see it, the competition was farmboy and street toughs, boxing in those day was really a toughman competition.

Their footwork, kit of punches power to weight ratio etc was so far away from the machines of the modern eras .

                  All good cheers.

For the non-heavies with weigh-ins at ringside, 45 rounds, 4 oz horsehair gloves, fouling etc., I have a hard time seeing many of todays champions having the toughness to compete.
