It was Juan Diaz that he should have fought for the WBA/WBO/IBF titles instead of picking David Diaz for the WBC.

    I learned something today.
Wrong, Pac was busy getting his 1st title crack at 130 to face JMM that time. Had he to moved up to 135 to face Juan Diaz, he would have skipped a 130 title belt

More research for the timelines please

This was in November of 2007. The Juan Diaz camp was interested in the fight and initiated talks:

Manny Pacquiao vs. Juan Diaz in The Works?

      Pac picked David Diaz instead.

Juan Diaz lost to Campbell in March 2008 the same month Pac had his title match against JMM at 130. Are you saying he should have passed the JMM fight to go directly to Juan Diaz?

Juan had been calling out Pac since 2007 but Pac was still campaigning @ 130 and hadn’t won a belt yet. The JMM fight would have been a bigger miss than a Juan Diaz fight.

You can boxrec it too if it helps with your research

Ok, so Pacquiao vs Marquez happened in the same month as Campbell vs Diaz?

Why couldn't Pacquiao fight Campbell next at 135 pounds then? Instead of fighting David Diaz next?

You know what... OnePunch used to promote Nate Campbell. I bet he can set us straight on whether or not Pacquiao had any interest in fighting Nate as opposed to David Diaz.

It's actually a good thing for Juan Diaz that he didn't get the Pacquiao fight. Juan was a guy who depended on pressure and volume because he wasn't a big puncher and he would have tried the same approach that Miguel Cotto and Antonio Margarito failed with. He would have mistakenly believed that he could bulldoze Pacquaio and Manny would have been way too fast for him.

So you're saying David Diaz was a better opponent than Baby Bull?

I wouldn’t argue with that one. But if you know TopRank, you would know that his inside house fighter would get the crack 1st before others from outside.

Besides, do you really think that Campbell was a threat to Pacquiao? Was he that more significant than Diaz? If the Dela Hoya opportunity didn’t come up, do you really think he would have ducked a Campbell match? Have you seen Campbell fight?

Nate Campbell was a superior fighter to David Diaz, I know that much.

Because Diaz was with top rank and Campbell was not?

Also campbell barely won his title that year.

Nate barely won his belts when Diaz and pac was in talks already.

He is, but he won’t make much difference. I would have loved to see that happen too. But taking on Campbell would have been like taking on Baldomir for Floyd. The guy’s just a 1 shot wonder who happened to be a bad match-up for Juan Diaz who lacked power
