Pacquiao fans: Why did he fight David Diaz at 135 instead of Nate Campbell?

Campbell had 5 losses and a draw at that time, to lesser fighters. Diaz had one loss and a draw, and scored a win over Erik Morales the year prior. How was Diaz the "much weaker" opponent?

Plus Campbell had back to back KO loses against a guy that both JMM and MAB just played with

        Pac picked David Diaz instead.
        Stop moving the goalposts man.

Pac didn’t move to 135 until after he beat Marquez in Mar 2008. By that point Diaz had lost to Campbell.

You could at least be creative and say Pac should’ve fought Valero or Guzman instead of Solis or something like that.

Just to play devils advocate do you think Mayweather picked Gatti instead of Tszyu?

Not really moving the goalposts per se. I didn't really remember the timeline of this which is why I am asking.

So far we have Juan Diaz calling Pacquiao out in November of 2007...Pacquiao choosing to fight JMM instead in March 2008 (can't blame him there, no brainer)...and Nate Campbell beating Juan Diaz for the belts in March 2008.

Since Pac and Campbell fought in the exact same month their schedules lined up perfectly. That would have been the time to schedule their fight. But Pac picked David Diaz instead.

              This.

Pac was averaging about 300K PPV buys against the likes of Barrera, Morales, Marquez, etc.

The Dela Hoya fight made him a 1million PPV star. It changed everything for him.

I thought it was one of Mannys best performances Diaz was no bum and Manny boxed great , these fights are building up to the big run they were fighting good fighters just not household names. Every elite fighter I can think of has their share of Diaz level opponents.

I dont think there was ducking and dodging of Campbell, more a opportunity and its easy to make as to why they fight one ranked guy over another, Manny would have beat the sht out of Nate anyway, these were all just stepping stones, the only early guy Manny really side stepped was Raheem, he was all wrong for Manny and they knew it.

Because Pacquiao had a habit of ducking slick fighters who were coming off good wins. Shane mosley Floyd Mayweather Nate Campbell

Why did the Pacquiao camp choose to go after a belt against the much weaker David Diaz instead? Isn't that a cherrypick?

                      Today is 5-19-2020.
