If Mayweather 'ducks' Margarito, but fights De la Hoya, Mosley and a few other decent names- he will only be remembered for beating those men, not for having ducked Margarito- unless Antonio has a stellar career from here and becomes the dominant force at 147, unifying the titles, etc.
LOL. yeah everyone will forget .........typical!

nobody will forget that he ducked Marg.

If you honestly think 10 years from now people are going to wonder why he didn't fight Carlos Baldomir you're sadly mistaken.

If he never faces Margarito, that may come into question, but a lot of that depends on what Margarito does from here on in. As of yet, he doesn't have any wins to write home about, and if he loses some fights and doesn't make a big splash, no one's going to remember him as a guy that was avoided.

The names like Delahoya will wash out anything people are currently crying about.

Unless he goes the rest of his career without fighting anyone meaningfull, this is all a bunch of hot air.
how will Dela's name wash out Marg .....in 2007 when Dela is a PART TIME fighter..he is a promoter , he is fighting twice in three years you moron! he can still fight, but IF him and Floyd fight he will be like 34yr old. MARG IS IN HIS PRIME LIKE FLOYD! HE IS RANKED #2 BELOW FLOYD....... HE IS A HUGE RISK TO FLOYD'S BELOVED "0"

HE OUT RIGHT DUCKED MARAGRITO, PEOPLE DONT FORGET THAT...WELL MAYBE NOT NUTHUGGERS LIKE YOURSELF...

exactly, i can't understand why so many of you think it's soo big for Mayweather to get another belt at this weight.. so what? On paper, that looks tremendous, i'm sure, and HBO can use it as a tagline after his name for the rest of his career, but will anyone, with any serious knowhow of the sport, actually think he was a true champion? Not at this point..

as long as we see at least one of the following in Mayweather's future (like the next 1-2 years): De La Hoya, Mosley, Wright, Hatton, all this grief about Floyd will disappear for the most part (but i'm still not holding my breath)

Where does anyone say that it's "sooo big"?

The only people I see talking about it are defending it saying it's not a meaningless fight.

If that fight with Oscar is a real possibility, fighting at 154 once, gaining a title, and fighting the guy who just beat the top rated fighter in that division makes sense.

it's basically the #1 reason people find Spinks the acceptable opponent..

in all, if Mayweather-De La Hoya really comes through in 2007, i'll be fine with it, but it's not PPV worthy whatsoever

ODLH is over the hill, injury prone, and will get his ass kicked. I hope Mayweather-ODLH never happens because the result will be about as meaningful as ODLH beating an old Chavez or Lewis beating on a ruined, sedated Tyson.

Mayweather-Mosley is an acceptable fight and I'd love to see it. ODLH is a joke of an opponent for Mayweather to prey on. The guy is too old and doesn't even want to fight anymore.

Bozo, you should be ashamed of yourself for claiming that a win over Oscar is a career defining victory for Mayweather. If you actually believe this is a big fight for Floyd in any sense other than financially, then you have nothing to be ashamed of, you're just an idiot.

oscar/PBF is already the fight everyone wants to see, i dont think beating spinks will make the oscar any bigger...

when pbf was gonna fight oscar this year, i didnt mind him turning down $8 mil and tony, but since it got pushed back til next year, there's no excuse why pbf/tony isnt happening...

The sequence of Sosa, N'dou, Corley, Bruseles, Gatti, Mitchell, Judah and maybe next Spinks will NEVER be looked on favorably. PBF-DLH if it happens will be a megafight, no doubt about it, but there will always be 4 mediocre years, prime years, on PBF's resume.

RJJ has the same problem and it hasn't helped his legacy one bit. We haven't developed collective amnesia and forgotten his fights against garbage collectors and part timers. At least PBF is still young enough to get some decent wins before he's past his prime. If he ever chooses to step it up. But make no excuses for his record as it stands today - underachievement and disappointment.
