When did Mayweather stop caring about his legacy?

First he takes on glass chinned Judah after Judah got his ass kicked by Baldomir, and now he avoids Margarito in favor of facing one of the lightest punchers I have seen on the world class level. Gone are the days of Mayweather taking on dangerous opponents like Corrales and Castillo. Gone are the days when he seemed hellbent on proving himself as a great fighter. Now he'd rather play patty cake for a few million bucks than defend his reputation as the best fighter in the world (and make a fortune doing it).

Add Mayweather's name to the list of potentially great fighters who lost it once they got a taste of riches and the high life. From this point on it's minimum risk, maximum profit. Just watch this guy make a few more easy defenses and retire, all the while comparing himself to Robinson, Leonard, Greb etc. etc. while the real boxing fans hang their heads and sigh.

exactley. except he thinks these "trinkets" that he is winning by moving up a few pounds is adding to his legacy. but it is actually hurting his legacy..real boxing fans know he hasnt done anything since 135 except beat a few VERY beatable fighters...

i think adding a 5th world title to his credit would greatly enhance floyds legacy.

well yeah, I mean if he beats Spinks, then he has 5 titles in 5 weight classes. AND HE'S UNDEFEATED. then he could go to middleweight and **** up Javier Castillejo's **** to tie De La Hoya's record

As always, the problem is that fighters fall into keeping their records nice as fans and writers write off fighters when they lose...so many fighters are worried about that...

I wish fighters would just fight the best when they can and while in their primes...

it just seems that Mayweather may be wasting his best years away by not fighting the guys who people will remember as good wins (Cotto, Hatton, Margarito, Baldomir)

These are the years fighters need to make best of their talents, youth, reflexes, hunger, good condition, etc...

              It's really dissapointing.

I mean, previously, fair enough. Hatton wasn't ready and Arum wouldn't allow Cotto within a thousand miles of PBF.

But now? He's got a clear fight that will make money and makes sense for his legacy.

He claims margarito is not a household name? And spinks is? And Baldomir is?

              Bull****.

It's official, PBF is ducking Margarito. IT's a shame too. I think he would win quite handily.

The fight he's eyeing with Oscar will be one of the biggest fights in boxing in years.

From there, there's no telling what he'll do.

Just another useless nay saying thread.

FLoyd is just making himself look more ******, even his die hard fans have to realize that he is ducking better opposition. I'm starting to lose respect for him slowly.

Adding titles in different weight classes is nice, but it's really not that big of a deal unless you are THE MAN at that weight. Floyds work at 140 and 147 has meant little to boxing purists, because he didn't beat the best to claim his position as the top dog there.

Guys like Morales and Barrera can claim to be true multi-weight champs because they fought and beat the best.
