It only took one fight at 160 for Trinidad to accomplish more than most of GGGs opposition, that alone says a lot. It's simple really, Trinidad would easily be one of the biggest names on GGGs resume, but since that doesn't help well with your agenda you don't want it count for Hopkins.

Golovkin lost to a 154 pounder that had no real experince fighting at 160....do u really think canelo moving up to middleweight to fight Hopkins wouldn't get seriously hurt? U can't talk to me about middleweight Hopkins vs golovkin when golovkin lost to somone moving up to his natrual weight. It's a joke......
You give Hopkins all kinds of credit for Trinidad, who had 1 fight at mw, but discredit ggg for facing canelo? Canelo is a far better fighter than trinidad imo, and he’s also naturally bigger. The canelo who “moved up” to fight ggg, would go the distance with hopkins...he’s a lot more durable than Trinidad.

Yes, some people truly are... he was a middleweight when Hopkins fought him.

Of course it counts for Hopkins just not as much as some are making out.

Read the OP again. I specifically stated no blown up Welterweights.

I don't need to read the OP again, I know exactly what you meant. The problem is that a blown up welterweight would be a career welterweight with no success at a higher weightclass. Trinidad was an undefeated middleweight champion and that automatically puts him ahead of most of GGGs title defenses in terms of quality wins. However, you want to discredit the win for Hopkins just to uplift GGG (who I'm a fan of btw) and that's just ******.

GGG was a great middleweight, and it is absolutely criminal how he was avoided early on only to be criticized for his opposition during his prime and his performances around his mid thirties when he started declining.

I don't know how much others may want it to count, but becoming undisputed champion is a pretty big deal regardless of the name of the champions you end up facing to accomplish this, just check how much credit Crawford gets (and deserves) for unifying the 140lbs division.

Doing it against an undefeated first ballot HOFer who was the favorite going into the fight is huge too, even if his best weightclass was below the middleweight division. Honestly, the win would've been huge even if Trinidad hadn't become a middleweight champion too. Kind of like Hagler's win over Mugabi is still very highly regarded.

When they announced that fight I was frankly shocked that he was favored over Hopkins. Maye that's a testament to Hopkins but the odds were out of wack. I felt the same way when Golovkin fought Brook. It was a solid win but not historic.

It would be crazy to compare BHops against Trinidad to GGGs win against Brooks though. Trinidad was a better and bigger welterweight, superwelterweight and, as mentioned before, an undefeated middleweight champion when Hopjins fought him. Way different than a current (at the time) welterweight titlist moving up two divisions to fight for a championship.
