How good of a trainer is Teddy Atlas?

- -He was a novice apprentice under Cus before being dismissed due to his dangerous derangement syndrome. He did apprentice under the legendary Cus D'Amato. So that is a huge positive in his favor.
But did he finish his training under the master? Was his development complete before he was forced to leave the Catskills?
What was his track record of success like once he started training fighters on his own?
Is this a "How dumb r U" thread?Comment

Some of the speeches are corny as hell, but I do think there are times when he offers good advice, Despite all the “firemen” BS I remember thinking he gave Bradley good advice against Rios, saying he was ready to go and telling him to step on it and he went and got the stoppage in the next few rounds. I didn’t expect him to stop Rios tbh, and despite the dramatic nature of it all I do think he was instrumental in keeping Moorer mentally motivated against Holyfield. Thanks for reminding me, remember when Teddy told Gvozdyk he's not actually hurt if he decides not to be? That was excellent advice for that situation.
Maybe I'm a little hard on teddy though. I'll rewatch a bit of before and after before I argue on those grounds, but, during the fights, I do think he's dog****.
He’s not a ATG trainer (like he probably thinks he is lol) by any means but I do think he’s a decent and competent trainer at the very least.Comment

I always found his references to food when predicting fights weird but amusing.

Rememba awl does times ya went to'da deli as a kid an ya got yuhself a sandwich? Well, Pacquiao's got da bread and some meat, but deah's no maw mustid.. No ****y pickle on da side.. Wheah's da mustid??!! He ran adda mustid two fights ago...Last edited by Derranged; 03-28-2020, 12:19 AM.Comment

The guy is a little overboard but he does know boxing
If you agree with him it’s a total other ballgame
But as a trainer , imo he’s much better than many of those so-called trainersComment

That was awesome
Funny chit but when in a fight it’ll just get you worked up
Corny , lame but if it works , hey why notComment

I’d definitely take him over a lot of the new school guys, a lot of these modern day coaches are essentially just fitness coaches. As uncle Roger would’ve said: they DKSAB...Comment

In my opinion, Teddy was more of a coach. He was never a good trainer in teaching a fighter the mechanics, techniques and the basic fundamentals of boxing.
He never developed any champions from the scratch. However, like Angelo Dundee; He was a good corner man and chief second who gave excellent motivational speeches to his fighters between rounds.Comment

Absolutely
I think some of them are just plain tards
It’s crazy
Never anything wise to say in the corner between rounds
Just don’t get itComment
