    Unwarranted hysteria

There have been 10,000,000 (that's Ten Million) cases of the flu in the US so far in 2020. 87,000 have required hospitalization 5,000 have died. As of this morning, 38 deaths have occurred in the US. Thirty eight. And everything is getting cancelled because 80-yr olds who would have possibly died from the 'common' flu or pneumonia, have died from it. Absolutely ridiculous.
Pandemic sounds scary, but only means that it has spread geographically. Literacy is a pandemic. The internet is a pandemic. For once I hope boxing remains the outlaw sport and carries on with business as usual. You talk about a chance to grow the sport...with no NBA, etc....this is a perfect opportunity to pull in casual fans.

California has now limited gatherings of more than 250 people through the end of March. This includes baseball, hockey, concerts, etc. https://t.co/EHm0Rxbfs2

Vergil Ortiz fight might be canceled.

The problem with this virus is that you can have no symptoms for 14 days while being contagious. It's so easy for the virus to spread in those conditions.

The big U.S. and UK shows may shut down, but boxing will live on.

We'll just have to get our fix watching streams of journeymen from South America and Africa.

The mortality rate is age dependent. The ranges that I've seen so far, is

              10 to 40 years old. .2%
              40 to 50 years old. .4%
              50 to 60 years old. 1.3%
And then it goes way up past 60, and tops out at 21% for over 80.

These are just speculative numbers of course, and they are 2 weeks old at that.

Yes, all sports league will follow suit. In the temporary they may have fight cards without fans in attendance, but I expect boxing to take a hiatus soon until the virus slows down.

Start looking into small shows hosted in South America, Africa, and Russia.

Mexico will continue too. They'll keep boxing even in the middle of a world war.

Boxing promoters are PR specialists. No one wants to have the stigma of being the person who put people at risk if an event goes sideways. No matter how small the chance, I expect boxing events to follow the other sports leads. The NCAA has announced the collage B-Ball tournament goes on without fans, and that to me seems to be the way these leagues are dealing with it to at least keep TV revenue coming. If a boxing event is on Showtime, ESPN, or a Fox affiliated broadcast, then a audience free option may work. Smaller events most likely will start to get cancelled until this virus burns itself out.

This panic is excessive and out of control, but I would rather overreact now and get back to normal in a few months then have the worst case scenario occur and have to react like France or China are.

Boxing is a FOR PROFIT sport. It will NEVER choose public health over profits. Both cards this weekend will have regular admission. State legislators can dictate boxing shows, but boxing is a violent sport that attracts gamblers, high rollers, drug users and drinkers, and people with all sorts of vices.

Do NOT expect boxing to go on some noble high road. It will NEVER do that. There are 4+ "champs" in each division so commissioning orgs can collect more money from each belt holder - GREED.
You are probably correct. The only thing that will curtail boxing being a publicly attended event are government mandates prohibiting public events.
