Comments Thread For: Wilder Looks To Break Ali Record With 'Devastating' KO Win

Deontay Wilder has vowed to deliver "a devastating knockout" against Tyson Fury that would see him surpass the record he shares with his idol Muhammad Ali. Going into Saturday's bout with Fury in Las Vegas, Wilder has defended his WBC heavyweight title on 10 occasions since winning it against Bermane Stiverne more than five years ago.

Wilder would be dangerous in any era.Only a massive hitter Foreman ,Shavers, Mike Tyson like outside of a master boxer like Ali would stand a chance.

IF Wilder is able to beat Fury, especially if he is impressive in doing it, then he officially becomes an all time great to me. I am picking Fury on points due to the horrendous bad habit he has of posing, waiting, watching, not punching, and in effect giving away rounds. I’ve seen him do this against Washington, Ortiz, even Fury I. It’s a bad habit he has and I really don’t see him adjusting to double his punch output and try to hit anything rather than just landing a big right hand.
If I am wrong, oh well.....but I think wilder is just too stubborn and gets too frustrated to make adjustments. There ARE going to be some people you just can’t knock out with one shot and wilder just doesn’t get that.

Even if Wilder KOs Fury (I doubt it as the fight will rahter be arranged the way to open doors for next ones between them) he still will need at least one or two wins over great chins in their prime so that he could be regarded as ATG and/or one of hardest hitters ever. KOing such weak chins as Breazeale or old grandpas as Ortiz means not much.

Solid punchers chance in any era, yes. But most of the time he'd be getting his clock cleaned bad and often in other eras. ****, it'd probably have happened in his own era if he hadnt been so selective with his opposition. Can you honestly imagine his power consistently bailing him out in the 90s against the likes of Lennox, Tyson, Bowe, Holyfield, Briggs, Mercer, Ibeabuchi, Tua etc instead of old Luis Ortiz and Eric Molina?

Easy when your record consists of 95% garbage.

Wilder is a title holder, Ali was a champion. Don't let them fool you. There's a difference.

So who currently would you rate as great chins in their prime in the Heavyweight division?

Kownacki has one of the best chins in boxing I just dont know how it fairs as far as long term effect because he blocks with his face. Real fun to watch though.
