And we all know Canelo has been doped up since. Probably even before as well.
that's not how sports doping works. It's not the 80-2000's anymore. NFL and MLB players didn't dope on the off season. Canelo is tested every fight, and boxers like RJJ and Toney were caught with post fight urine tests which means they were on something IN THE RING on fight night, not collections months away. In all sports including Olympic revoking of medals shows athletes on stuff DURING their competition, not months away. How do you cheat on a exam months away when you don't know the questions or problems? People cheat DURING performance day.
Agreed. I thought Golovkin won both fights though.
I also thought GGG won both fights but Canelo got the win and from there quickly became the biggest star in boxing. The 2nd Canelo vs GGG fight and the Mayweather vs Pac fights were the two biggest most significant fights of the decade in my opinion.
Now that we are in 2020, looking back what do you think was the most significant fight of the past decade 2010-2019?
Not necessarily the biggest fight financially, but the most significant one in terms changing the boxing landscape, signaling the beginning of a new era or the end of an era?
Floyd v Manny matched the top 2 p4p fighters, the top 2 earners, and was the last fight matching 2 genuine ATG boxers against one another. There wasn't a more significant fight during the decade.
It set the stage for change and newer stars to emerge I feel in a languishing MW division where now it seems to be at or near the weight range where lucrative fights can be made.
At the time Pavlik was just sorta there as and had his personal issues after Bhop took his soul in that embarrassing boxing lesson.
Without that fight Cotto at the time wouldn't have been interested in using his drawing power to negotiate a winnable fight with Sergio at a time he physically wasn't all there.
After that he was relevant enough again as lineal mw champion and a good draw still which prompted the Canelo fight which created the demand for the GGG fight.
Who knows what could have happened if that Sergio never beat Pavlik, he could have just remained inactive or fought so so mandos for however long.
Its all speculation though
I hear ya bro . I just feel it was quite stagnant til canelo and ggg came around, Jacob's came back etc . And I feel simular things could have happened as pavlik likely would Hve lost or relinquished his straps outside of the ring and the same people would have emerged besides Cotto. And I agree what would have happened if Cotto wasnt lineal at the time ??how long would canelo have stayed at 154 ?? How long could he have ?? Sorry my mind had me thinking this was a weak middleweight division so I naively ignored the word history associated with it , which is crazy . I was thinking historical significance not historically . But as I said before every hit and miss with fights or potential fights changes the course of history so I kind of debunked my own debate hahaha

I see what u are saying YB . But it is very beneficial to to cycle on and off peds . I did the research as I wasnt sure about how it worked and wanted to know what my opponents had on me potentially but it's a whole differnt ball game in the AMs it's quite easy to get away with unless u are at the national and international levels (in canada u can do it at a national level when I fought and pull it off if u did it right ,but i was always a clean fighter ). The effects of a ped being used before a fight can be very relevant after said fighter has cycled off especially if they cycle off right before a training camp . Let's say fighter Anon is taking a designer ped before training camp whether to cut weight or gain strength and endurance ( or even to gain muscle and move up ) . Lets say before the cycle stated fighter Anon was at 70% , and when they cycle off they are at 100% . If they are training right through( which they surely are ) their loses are going to be much smaller let's say they are going to fall back to 85% and maintain the remaining gains with their training camp . Most of these guys are micro dosing year round out of training camp to maintain , and that's where organizations like vada come in to combat that , this is the precise reason they are around. Vada and all tests pre and post fight cover exactly what u are talking about and show that said athletes were either taking the ped and trying to mask it and failed or they cycled off wrong and need a better nutritionalist . Just thought I would shed some light on the topic . All respect . What vada etc is doing is a step in the right direction , doping will not be stopped until they start taking tests at the turn of the shortest half life of a banned designer drug. I hope I didnt take your message at all out of context I admittingly dont remember what I read in the post u were responding to but I felt I got the jist of it from your post . If I didnt my bad . **** THE LDBC !!!
It is almost impossible not to go with the biggest fight and biggest boxing event of the Decade which was Mayweather vs Pacquiao even though the fight ******
Oh also AJ vs Wlad Revived the Heavyweight Division IMO because it was a THRILLER! no disrespect to Fury, yeah he beat Wlad first but that fight was terrible. Wlad Dropped AJ, then AJ got off the Canvas and stopped Wlad. The Atmosphere the Entrances everything about that event was electric
Then also too you have to throw in AJ vs Ruiz I, another Thiller
I feel like this Decade is very underrated because all fans do is b#tch and complain about the sport but this Decade yeah boxing went more Corporate I would said with DAZN and PBC getting the backing of FOX and Top Rank getting the backing of ESPN however, more money being pumped into the sport of boxing than EVER which I think is a good thing. Just need to figure out how to make the big fights everybody want to see consistently and faster
