Most Significant boxing fight of the past decade?

Now that we are in 2020, looking back what do you think was the most significant fight of the past decade 2010-2019?

Not necessarily the biggest fight financially, but the most significant one in terms changing the boxing landscape, signaling the beginning of a new era or the end of an era?

Honestly, though it was a mega fight as dull as it was, it didnt really have any implications for the future of boxing.

Floyd went on to have that showcase fight then retire and Pac has been on something of a retirement tour against okish opponents Thurman aside.

Martinez moving up to fight Pavlik and winning the lineal mw title is my pick.

Boxing today could look very different if that never took place.

Martinez had a decent middleweight run. Dont take this the wrong way at all , but how do u figure boxing would be quite differnt ?? Imho it was quite the weak era .also pavlik was a savage alcoholic he would have self destructed either way . I mean maybe cotto wouldnt have won a belt if pavlik made it that far had he beat sergio as I think pavlik would have been way to big for Cotto. Martinez didnt exactly go on a historic run altho it was very good for the time . Besides taylor pavlik doesnt really have a championship calibre win . I guess ggg may have held the lineal title by beating the man who beat the man ?? I mean every win essentially changed the course of boxing history iam just curious why u picked this one ?? A very good win . The best of Martinez career imo.

I'm going with floyd vs Canelo. If Canelo doesn't get taken to school he isn't the fighter he is today. That's one of many reasons hes the P4P champion hes in his prime and has tons of experience against the best.

It set the stage for change and newer stars to emerge I feel in a languishing MW division where now it seems to be at or near the weight range where lucrative fights can be made.

At the time Pavlik was just sorta there as and had his personal issues after Bhop took his soul in that embarrassing boxing lesson.

Without that fight Cotto at the time wouldn't have been interested in using his drawing power to negotiate a winnable fight with Sergio at a time he physically wasn't all there.

After that he was relevant enough again as lineal mw champion and a good draw still which prompted the Canelo fight which created the demand for the GGG fight.

Who knows what could have happened if that Sergio never beat Pavlik, he could have just remained inactive or fought so so mandos for however long.

              Its all speculation though

Yep. The first fight. GGG got robbed.

And we all know Canelo has been doped up since. Probably even before as well.

Agreed. I thought Golovkin won both fights though.

Canelo still took 4 rounds off Floyd's 8. What other boxer did that on a countering game? Maidana abandoned boxing and just went forward racking up points for activity. Canelo looked impressive against Floyd after the 8th round, knowing he had to turn it up. Rounds 1-8 is basically Floyd's highlights over Canelo's mistakes, but most highlights don't focus on how Canelo made Floyd more alert and evasive after the 8th while getting tagged. The fact that it was at 152 when Floyd already full at the full limits before with DLH and Cotto suggests what?

And lastly, how is it that Canelo ''getting schooled'' whereas all other Floyd opponents didn't ''learn'' a boost in Ring IQ. It's obvious Canelo came in with the wrong gameplan. You can't box a master boxer. He was better off coming forward, a style that Canelo barely started with GGG-2. Imo, Canelo taking more hits with this approach since its more classic/rudimentary, but the fans love it.
