The WBO mandatory against Povetkin took place a year after the IBF mandatory against Takam. It's 2020 and there hasn't been an IBF mandatory since 2017. It's not the WBO's turn yet. You can't strip Joshua for fighting one mandatory over another as long as he sticks to the rotation. The issue is that Hearn wants him to vacate the WBO for other reasons, so there is an effort to fool the fans here.

No one is fooling anyone certainly not you, If the IBF requests a mandatory fight and Joshua does not comply he is stripped ,a fighter cannot stop a sanctioned body because he’s following a rotation if both are due.

But as long as Usyk and AJ are committed to fighting each other anyway, which it seems they are, I don't see any problem in them setting it up as a unification fight, rather than a mandatory defense by AJ.

Those were different situations. Canelo was stripped for refusing to fight his mando. Fury was stripped for being legally unable to fight his IBF mando due to him signing a rematch clause with Wlad, without notifying the IBF and getting their permission first.

That would be ideal for Hearn, AJ, and the winner of Usyk/Parker, because it would set up 2 world HW title fights, and - as long as Pulev didn't ruin the plan by beating AJ - the 2 Matchroom world champs could then unify against other straight after. Yea I get all that up until the written letter because I don’t really remember it being that easy the other posters claims however AJ is saving face when he’s going to fight Pulev first then Usyk anyway so what is he saving by giving Up the WBO makes no sense if two champions fight .

The IBF subsequently revoked that, it was discussed at length in the media at the time, they have called the mandatory no need to listen to Hearn or Joshua go ask the IBF.

This is all a show so Joshua can save face with his fans if he ditches a belt he doesn't have to ditch.

Povetkin was the WBO and WBA mandatory at the same time.
