Was Mike Tyson massive outside of the US? Maybe my view of him is warped, but, I think Mike's the most or second most popular boxer of all time. Either Mike or Ali. Both of them have fans that don't give a **** about boxing. Ali has his activism fans and Mike's got his video game fans, they both have Hollywood fans and comic book fans.

Floyd Mayweather's in what? Where's Floyd's action figure?

I'm inclined to say Mike Tyson by a ****load.

The only thing is, is it not possible with connectivity of the age for more people around the world to know Floyd than Mike even if Mike is extremely popular where he is known? Places like Saudi Arabia and whatnot that are just now opening up to boxing may not know Mike like we all know Mike. I don't think so though. I'm pretty sure everyone on the planet knows the three American 80s Mikes. Mike Tyson, Michael Jackson, and Michael Jordan were worldwide, no?

Mike Tyson has long retired, and it is frightening that his legend still kind of gets spoken about.

Floyd Mayweather was a superstar, but there is a level above super-stardom 'In boxing Muhammad Ali & Mike Tyson are probably the only fighters from the somewhat modern era to reach this level'.

As in star power not bank account. Mike hasn't fought in nearly 15 years and hes name is still synonymous with boxing and knockouts People are still interested in hes life, hes stories. Floyd is already losing relevance. I still meet normies who haven't heard of Mayweather, or dont know why they have. Everyone, even youth who weren't born when he was fighting, know Tyson and know why they know him.

It's not really possible to compare fighters of different eras. Tyson never had the technology to reach viewers that was available to Floyd just as Floyd won't have the tech available to Alvarez and Joshua.
Floyd was amazing in terms of drawing power though. When you consider Floyd wasn't a HW, wasn't a KO artist and wasn't an exciting offensive fighter plus he fought with a cautious defensive style.
I think Floyd's shtick was his undefeated record and his bad boy persona outside the ring that created the buzz.

May had a tougher road and held king of boxing title longer. Take it for what it's worth.

People were intrigued with Mike because his waif like lisp was in stark contrast to his vicious fighting style.

Just walk down the street and ask people if they heard of Mayweather, then ask if they heard of Tyson and you'll find out quick no one knows Mayweather outside the African American community.

At Mike's peak, his ENW was $300mil ($418mil 2019 inflation)
May took in $275mil in 1 fight.

                      Mike is worth $3mil today.
Let's see how May handles his money 20 years from now.
