The entire media has more or less labeled all of the current fighters as Russian, as well as most boxing fans. So has the entire marketing for this fight. All of them were involved in very tough Russian amateur boxing programs and all three of the current champs speak Russian (rather than their regional dialects), and that is probably why they all get bunched in together. The fact that most of these countries were all part of the Soviet Union at one point, will always have many of them connected to Russia, and have their athletes reffered to as Russians.

The Klitschkos are technically Ukranian, but everyone refers to them as Russian.

the big thing is they all speak Russian as their first language. Just in Russia, not counting areas that are no longer part of Russia like Armenia etc.. Their are like 120 different languages spoken.

So Russians would generall consider the Klitschko's etc as Russian and especially Maskaev even though they are from Ukraine and Kazakstan respectively. In Kazakstan I think the majority of the people speak Kazak as opposed to Russian but Maskaev doesn't.

I stick up for the Ukranian nationalists, but I am just saying.

Oleg Maskaev is a Russian (well 50/50 Russian/Ukrainian) who has Kazakhstani citizenship.

Oleg stated that he will enter the ring with the Russian flag.

But (!!!) the media should definitely stop this bull**** about Americans vs Russians. This only hurts the fighters.

I would instead say that Wlad currently rules among the HWs, and leave this at that.

Yeah, but James Toney refers to Wlad and Vitology as "those two punks from Germany."
