Since boxing didnt exist b4 1980 then keep your mouth shut when discussing ATGs.
I can't take anyone serious who doesn't respect the history of boxing.
Like the new rappers comparing themselves to 90s Rap.Comment

Courage and resilience has not changed in man for 1000s of years, education and skills have become better and training is more advanced so I agree the modern fighter, the modern athlete is faster stronger and has more endurance than years gone by, but if you took say Robinson or any other great champion and trained him by today's standards you will have a better version than what they were in their time which would equalize the differences.
Todays guys in a time warp would win not because they have more courage and determination but because they are more technically refined, train them the same and then they are equal.Comment

The boxers of yesteryear had more skills and were battle tested. Less weight classes crowded better fighters into having to fight eachother before title fights. We have belt holders now who have never fought a top 10 opponent.
I think when you cut to the core of the argument the best fighters of an era could compete against the best of any era.Comment

Tell me again how Panty Cruz with zero power and not much speed (hand or foot) would beat the everloving crap out of Pep (arguably the best feather of all time). Panty Cruz won't even fight Russell or Rigo but you want us to believe he beats the greats? Hero worship is okay I guess but you have to keep your feet on the ground.Comment

Even as a hardcore Boxing fan, I dont care about the black and white era before the 30s..
I think Jack Johnson is a bum. He is like Deonte wilder of stone age. What is so great about that guy again? And if you havent see him live, opinions dont hold weight.
I laugh when I see dudes praising fighters from 1920s. Talking about em as if they lived through the era when infact they just heard stories from grandpas.
So yea I dont talk about fighters those eras because Im not thrilled watching them. I find it primitive and uninteresting.
Im about 1980s-present as well..Comment

What a ****** thread. All the fundamentals that boxers work with and build on today come from the hard work and brilliant minds of yesteryear. Without them boxing wouldn't existComment
