For Pulev he would have had to go to Bulgaria and he would have been paid $200k, if I remember correctly. He pulled out because he was offered Joseph Parker, in the UK, as a PPV headline fight, for a 7 figure purse.
The "final eliminator" with Ortiz was a classic piece of WBC bullshit. The winner wouldn't have become the WBC mandatory, he would have become the "second mandatory" ... next in line after Breazeal, which is where Whyte was anyway, until the UKAD fiasco blew up.
Whyte and Hearn informed the WBC that if the Ortiz fight was a bona fide final eliminator - as in, the winner is next in line for a mandatory shot - they would take it, but that wasn't what they were being offered.
And if Dillian had accepted that fight, would Ortiz have gone through with it?
I have my doubts about that. Ortiz said he was ready for it, but he also said he was ready to step in and fight AJ after Miller got popped, then turned down the chance when he was offered it for the same money as Miller would have got.
