No one forced Kovalev to take the fight on such short notice. the $12million payday sure was incentive, though.

He is what he had to say after the fight:

"I was tired after Round 6 because I had my last fight very close to this one," said Kovalev, who defeated mandatory challenger Anthony Yarde by 11th-round knockout on Aug. 24. "But it's OK. It's a new experience for me. Canelo is really a great champion. I didn't recover from my last fight. But it's OK."

This is conclusive evidence that Canelo had picked this guy and gave him a very heavy handicap. Had Canelo given Krusher until Jan or Feb to recover I wouldn't have much to say negative.

        Well let’s see it
Wanna see him get smashed up and King Artur can make some coin
Still think they will push for Bivol at 168
Yeah all the stuff about Kovalev being the best guy at 175 is/was complete bullsh**. And the comparisons to Henry Armstrong really p***ed me off as well tbh.

I’d like to see him face Callum Smith at 168 as well.

It was a very good win against a proven top level fighter albeit a top fighter who is in decline but a fighter who STILL remains a credible opponent nonetheless.

I had Canelo down 94-96 after 10, and he didn’t look sensational by any means last night. But we have to give him credit for pulling it out the bag and finding the stoppage. His ring generalship and defence were excellent last night.
A fighter who almost loses to a novice fighting top 50 in his weight class isn't remotely close to top level.

Kovalev would still lose given more time but anybody not acknowledging that he took the fight for money shouldn't be pretending to follow the sport.

              Yeah I wouldn’t mind that
Even though I think he would beat Smith
Just thinking that if they build it up properly , Bivol is the fight

No question about taking the fight...it's a big retirement payday for the K man. I just think he may have pulled out the win with a few more months to rest up after the Yarde fight.

Kovalev is unquestionably a top level Light Heavyweight by any metric.

                  Skill wise? Yes.

                  Resume? Yes.

Yarde whilst lacking experience, is a decent fighter too, far from a novice.

Hopefully DAZN actually invest in Bivol. His matchmaking has been very disappointing this year. Wish he was over on ESPN with Beterbiev, Gvodzyk, Ramirez etc.

                    Bivol-Kovalev would make sense.
