Let's be rational about Canelo's Victory

Canelo picked a guy who had been KO'd in 2 of his last 6 fights, and almost KO'd in his last fight.

He LIED straight faced into the camera when answering a Chris Mannix question "why did you pick Kovalev" he said "because he is the most dangerous LHW out there". Earth to Canelo...ARTUR BETERVIEV.

His opponent was 36 yrs old, and had fought a tough fight only 8 weeks prior to last night.

His opponent was forced into several dehydration limits.

His opponent, the LHW champ, was forced to enter the ring BEFORE the challenger.

Before his ring entrance, a video was shown describing Canelo as the new LHW champ who now won at 4 different weights. THIS WAS BEFORE THE FIGHT EVEN STARTED.

One of the judges (Dave Moretti) gave Canelo the first two rounds, when even the heavily biased DAZN guy MAnnix scored them for Kovalev.

He was literally schooled for the first half of the fight by a one armed opponent.

So, to sum up, he picked an old, washed up boxer who was the easiest LHW belt holder to defeat, saddled him with many handicaps, bought the judges, and avoided the real beast in the division.

Ok. Well done, Canelo. You KO'd the man who was pre-ordained to lose by any means necessary.

That isn’t very rational...

It was a very good win against a proven top level fighter albeit a top fighter who is in decline but a fighter who STILL remains a credible opponent nonetheless.

I had Canelo down 94-96 after 10, and he didn’t look sensational by any means last night. But we have to give him credit for pulling it out the bag and finding the stoppage. His ring generalship and defence were excellent last night.

I think it was clear that Beterbiev, Bivol and the cat AB just beat were all better than Kovalev at this point in their careers but Kovalev had the name value for Canelo to go after.

And yeah, that video declaring him the LHW champion before the fight was a bit disrespectful and them calling him the 168 champ is a joke also when Callum Smith is the real belt holder in that organization. The boxing world blows Canelo, he's a diva to the fullest but he brings in the $$ so he calls the shots for now.

Whilst I’d like to see him face Beterbiev (who beats Canelo IMO) he shouldn’t have to fight him.

I'm not hating. Logic and rational thinking don't include hate in their equations. The win will be recorded, and in the future, when all of us are dead and dust, will look great on his resume. But we all, or most of us, know different.

Kovalev was ripe for the picking. And the other two LHW champs were avoided LIKE THE PLAGUE.

If Canelo gets into the ring with Beterviev I will be the first one in here to give Canelo props. But that ain't going to happen.
