Kovalev ostensibly won a lot of rounds on activity just by throwing the jab and keeping Canelo at long range. Whilst Canelo landed the cleaner and more effective punches in the rounds he won. A lot of rounds were subjective tbf.
Canelo picked a guy who had been KO'd in 2 of his last 6 fights, and almost KO'd in his last fight.
He LIED straight faced into the camera when answering a Chris Mannix question "why did you pick Kovalev" he said "because he is the most dangerous LHW out there". Earth to Canelo...ARTUR BETERVIEV.
His opponent was 36 yrs old, and had fought a tough fight only 8 weeks prior to last night.
His opponent was forced into several dehydration limits.

Before his ring entrance, a video was shown describing Canelo as the new LHW champ who now won at 4 different weights. THIS WAS BEFORE THE FIGHT EVEN STARTED.
One of the judges (Dave Moretti) gave Canelo the first two rounds, when even the heavily biased DAZN guy MAnnix scored them for Kovalev.
He was literally schooled for the first half of the fight by a one armed opponent.
So, to sum up, he picked an old, washed up boxer who was the easiest LHW belt holder to defeat, saddled him with many handicaps, bought the judges, and avoided the real beast in the division.
Ok. Well done, Canelo. You KO'd the man who was pre-ordained to lose by any means necessary.
