Why is Spence vs. Porter being hailed as FOTY by some?

It was a very good fight, i dont agree its FOTY or even a close contender but it was a very enjoyable close fight. If somebody else wants to argue it is a contender i could understand i just wouldnt agree. Plenty more quality fights coming up too before the years out.

You know what, you have a good point. I had a few to list, a shorter list than i thought id have and rethinking those fights i dont believe they were better than Spence Porter. Some very enjoyable fights but they do struggle to compete with quality in that fight.

Id like to retract my starement. I dont think its THE best fight of the year but it is a very close contender.

these all so far can be fight of the year id say spence porter because it was closer than any of the others

Right after the fight I said several times "Great Fight" but really it was just a lot better than I expected. Great fights I will usually watch in their entirety more than a couple times.

This fight I've skipped through a few times to refresh my memory on some points but I've no real desire to watch it again all the way through. My revised rating would be "Good Fight".

The other thing for me is this. I can never call FOTY when it's largely just one guy getting his marbles rocked. So that eliminates Joshua/Ruiz in my eyes.

TO me, a FOTY has to be a pick-em through 12 rounds OR something like Berto/Ortiz 1 where it's just that edge-of-the-seat action and you got the commentators (in that case, Manny Steward RIP) excited.

Hooker/Ramirez was real good. Ramirez/Zapeda was good as well (I thought Zapeda pulled it out).

WTF?? I strongly disagree. Hurd fought well but lost. Dogboe got his manhood taken from him.
