Porter/Spence? Same level as Tyson/Holyfield 1. Vast majority of people thought it was Porter being fed to Spence to set up a Crawford fight. Instead, what we saw was levels. Levels of top competition, named fighters, recognized by celebrities.

If you don't like Porter's style that's fine, but you have to acknowledge that he took the best Spence had to offer and gave Spence a very tough showing. It elevated the profile of both guys - Porter's become the tough two-time former champion gatekeeper to the upper echelon while Spence proved he can box AND phone booth.

Now, if you want to be anywhere near the elites, you have to go through Danny or Porter. VERY FEW guys are getting past those two. That's an exciting thought.
I definitely take no credit away from Porter even though I hate his style. Dude fought his ass off.

I just feel like the fight was good but not great. Zero drama for me. I know what Spence is capable of and I know Porter always gives 110%. I guess the fight just went exactly as I expected.

Another good choice. Thurman made it competitive after a rocky start but Pacman's body shot in the 10th round got the fight back in his favor.

True. Like Spence said though, Porter fights like he don’t know how to swim lol, and that just kills it for me.

I prefer the clean boxing of Spence and the Ramirez vs. Hooker fight.

It's in the FOTY argument. Non stop action and close, I really enjoyed it.

That fight had real ebbs and flows. Spence-Porter was a fun fight but I never felt like Porter was winning.

it was a really fun fight, for sure. one of the most anticipated fights of the year, but FOTY? i'm not so sure. barrios-akhmedov imo was more entertaining than the main event

I mean the 3-3 card is being generous to Hooker, but that Ramirez's fight pretty much throughout. Giving Hooker two rounds is not all that crazy as he had a case for two rounds. But then he ended up getting his head bashed in the 6th round.

There wasn't enough drama for that fight to be FOTY since it only went 6 rounds. You can have a FOTY for a 6 round fight, but it better have some KDs and crazy momentum swings. We didn't see that in that fight. Though, I will say Ramirez getting the BS KD in the 1st round did skew the cards a bit. So I take back some of what I said earlier. That was Hooker's round that went to Ramirez because the ref called a BS knockdown. Still, not enough to be FOTY.
Yeah, I think you’re right about Ramirez vs. Hooker. Definitely not long enough and I can see the view that there was no drama.

For me there was no drama in Spence vs. Porter, which leads me back to Joshua vs. Ruiz.

Biggest upset of the year. Most drama. Unification. Not the highest level boxing skill but still good. Best atmosphere (it was hilarious how the British crowd went from insanely loud to silent).

Hopefully Canelo vs. Kovalev, Inoue vs. Donaire, Wilder vs. Ortiz II, and Joshua vs. Ruiz II deliver because there hasn’t been many good fights this year.

Hurd vs Williams was easier on the eyes, but I'd lean toward Spence vs Porter being the winner.

Was Joshua/Ruiz actually a great fight though? I mean it had a GREAT back and forth round 3, but was it not one sided after that? I mean Ruiz dropped him four times in the fight.

Spence/Porter was extremely tight and back and forth until Spence got the KD in the 11th round. Most had it even after 10 or Spence up 6-4, but the fight was still up in the balance. The KD did come at a dramatic time though with the fight continuing to be back and forth and both fighters delivering leather.
