Why is Spence vs. Porter being hailed as FOTY by some?

It was a good fight, very sloppy due to Porter, but still a good fight.

Fight Of The Year? Hell no. For me Ramirez vs. Hooker is FOTY so far. Fast paced high level boxing in a unification. What more can you ask for? The fight was 50-50 until the sudden violent stoppage.

If not Ramirez vs. Hooker then the FOTY was Joshua vs. Ruiz due to all of the drama in the fight and being the biggest event of the year so far.

Spence vs. Porter doesn’t match either of those fights in any criteria. Maybe it’s just because Porter’s style disgusts me but I didn’t see anything special about Spence vs. Porter.

    Ramirez/Hooker was too one sided.

Ruiz/Joshua is the upset of the year.

Hurd vs Williams/Spence vs Porter could be what the FOTY comes down to. Though there have been some really good fights with fighters not as known.

Yes, that's exactly what it is.

Ramirez/Hooker had nearly zero expectations going into the fight. Frankly it shouldn't have been even Steven. Also, if either guy were walking down the street nobody would know who they were.

Porter/Spence? Same level as Tyson/Holyfield 1. Vast majority of people thought it was Porter being fed to Spence to set up a Crawford fight. Instead, what we saw was levels. Levels of top competition, named fighters, recognized by celebrities.

If you don't like Porter's style that's fine, but you have to acknowledge that he took the best Spence had to offer and gave Spence a very tough showing. It elevated the profile of both guys - Porter's become the tough two-time former champion gatekeeper to the upper echelon while Spence proved he can box AND phone booth.

Now, if you want to be anywhere near the elites, you have to go through Danny or Porter. VERY FEW guys are getting past those two. That's an exciting thought.

You must have not watched the fight to make a thread more disgusting then Porter's style can possibly be.

          Hooker-Ramirez?

          Consider suicide at this point.

            Agree with you completely.

Hooker vs. Ramirez or Joshua vs. Ruiz. Both fights were waaaaay more exciting.

The problem with Spence vs. Porter is that no one got hurt. Even in the KD, Porter never fell on the canvass. Not once was the fight even close to ending.

                3-3

I mean the 3-3 card is being generous to Hooker, but that Ramirez's fight pretty much throughout. Giving Hooker two rounds is not all that crazy as he had a case for two rounds. But then he ended up getting his head bashed in the 6th round.

There wasn't enough drama for that fight to be FOTY since it only went 6 rounds. You can have a FOTY for a 6 round fight, but it better have some KDs and crazy momentum swings. We didn't see that in that fight. Though, I will say Ramirez getting the BS KD in the 1st round did skew the cards a bit. So I take back some of what I said earlier. That was Hooker's round that went to Ramirez because the ref called a BS knockdown. Still, not enough to be FOTY.

Yeah, I get the sense that some of those commenting didn’t even watch the Ramirez vs. Hooker fight.

I don’t think there was one tie up in that whole fight unlike Spence vs. Porter.

Truth be told, there weren't that many great fights this year. Spence/Porter stands out as a close, 50/50 contest that could have gone either way. AJ/Ruiz has the drama and excitement (and upset factor) but Spence/Porter was 12 rounds of competitive fighting that ebbed and flowed in favor of each fighter.
