Comments Thread For: Team Akhmedov To Protest Decision Loss To Mario Barrios

Immediately after the scores were announced for the WBA World Super Lightweight Title bout this past Saturday night between Batyr Akhmedov and Mario Barrios, a massive outpouring of boos from the huge Staples Center crowd combined with a blistering attack on the judges on social media from the press and fans occurred as the Uzbek star was robbed of victory by scores of 111-115 (Tim Cheatham), 111-116 (Jeremy Hayes) and 112-114 (Zachary Young). The bout took place on the Errol Spence Jr. vs. Shawn Porter Welterweight World Championship undercard and was telecast on Fox Sports PBC Pay-Per-View.

Where it not for the knockdowns Batyr would have won the fight but its very hard to claim a win when you got two 10-8 rounds against you

IMMEDIATE REMATCH is the answer, Very good fight Barrios had the 2 knockdowns, but Akhmedov beat him from pillar to post in many rounds that many judges would have scored 10-8 rounds in spite of no knockdowns, I am Sure The Fans would like to see them fight again. It was such a good fight if Akhmedov wins the rematch a 3rd fight would be great as well.

Me and a lot of guys still had it a win for Batyr

including that last round a 10-9. From the KD in the 4th Akhmedov dominated the fight. Mario had fans in the fight thread who were legit shocked at the decision. That 12th round KD should have made it a draw at the very worst. I have no idea how any of the judges gave Barrios any of rounds 5-11

Ehh, bigger names have suffered more egregious decisions- no way this protest makes a mark.

Best answer is to better articulate scoring criteria and values for those criteria. As of now it is ambiguous to the point where you can't discern corruption, from incompetence, from preference.

But I guess thats how the powers that be like it, lets them keep the power where they want it without repercussion.

I thought it was a draw with the two kds.

But Ahkmedov was clearly the better fighter

              Batir won the fight . 7 rounds , from 5 to 11 . And the 12 , could have been 9-9 . This was a robbery .
              Batir won .

I very much support this! The WBA should investigate this fight!

It's not only the fact that Barrios won when he lost imo. I scored it 115-112 for Akhmedov. It's that Barrios would have won without scoring that knockdown in the 12th round on the judges socrecards....that is absolutely disgraceful.

Akhmedov got robbed and set up. No way he loses that fight if he isn't knocked down in round 12. He battered Barrios from pillar to post round 4 on. It was an @ss whooping

I was at the fight so I didn't have the advantage (disadvantage?) of hearing the commentary or seeing the unofficial scoring, but I felt it was a close fight and the knockdowns likely made the difference. I was a little confused by the booing when the decision was read. Now, to be fair, I was stuck in the pizza line for the first 3 rounds so I saw those on TV and not up close, but still.
