Claim GGG had 20 title defenses?? both had/have the "regular" WBA title..12 or 13 of GGG's defenses was of the same title Canelo has at 168
Why do the same posters who say Canelo is not a champ at 168

GGG & Canelo are intertwined in fanboys minds. Anyone fanboyinhg for Canelo is gonna hype Canelo sh^t & downplay GGG sh^t. And anyone fanboying GGG is gonna hype GGG sh^t & downplay Canelo sh^t. This is standard fanboy behavior & not reallllly confusing or worth a thread.Comment

You could say the same for the other side. There are alot of Canelo fans calling him a 3 weight champ but dismissing Golovkins title defenses.
I keep it a buck. I call Canelo a 2 division champ and I don't think GGG tied that recordComment

Because the WBA just randomly had two champions at middleweight so it’s impossible to distinguish the difference between the two belts. Felix Sturm didn’t unify anything, he was just randomly given that title.
At 168, Callum Smith knocked out Rocky Fielding so it’s easy to tell who the real WBA champ is and who isn’t one.Comment

I'm more wondering about Bivol. He's not the super champ, he actually WAS the Interim champ that was promoted to the WBA regular champ. There is no Super champ at 175, and by the WBA's own rules the champ is (or was) supposed to be upgraded to super champ after 5 defenses.
So with 5 defenses will Bivol be upgraded to Super champ? Is that even still a rule the WBA has? Was Golovkin upgraded after 5 defenses? They don't follow their own rules so I have no idea.Comment

Why do the same posters who give Canelo credit for winning a belt at 168 say he's moving "two divisions" to fight Kovalev at 175?
Makes no sense.Comment

I think the main difference is GGG's super champion refused to fight him...GGG was pretty much the consensus top MW while he was making those defenses...though I agree that to the letter of the law, giving him credit for all of those defenses is probably not accurate, but in most people's opinion he was the top dog at MW ever since he basically picked up the first regular belt.
Canelo got that belt by fighting a rather weak 168 pounder...there are clearly many 168 pounders better that he could fight or could have fought...sp yeah imo going up and snagging a regular belt from a weak titlist is different that defending the regular belt for a number of times when you are the de facto champion anyway.
Kind of semantics how you view GGG's title defense record...it certainly helps tell a story of how dominant he was though, even if someone wants to say it wasn't the 'real' belt he was defending, which is valid in some ways I thinkComment
