The anticipation of the fights they could have had with at least some of the top opponents ...

That's a major reason why Thomas Hearns is my favorite fighter of all time. He didn't win every time he stepped into the ring with some of the top opponents, but he surely did get into the square circle with them. Hearns brought that anticipation for me leading up to his fights, and the excitement during the actual fights.

Hearns didnt fight Sugar ray right away neither from what i can remember. The fight built up, they were talking baout fighting long before the fight actually happened. The point Im making is, just because Floyd dont want o fight Margo now, dont mean he want. Margo needs to work onhis marketability and actually fight somebody of note.

Gatti had a puncher's chance before the fight, after the fight he was overrated. Corrales knocking everybody out and he is big and tall, 6 ko later, Corrales wasnt himself. Zab will be the first to test Floyd, floyd never fought no one faster and stonger than him, a low blow later, Zab wasnt even the real champ, he shouldnt of had the IBF belt anyways. After margarito loses to Floyd, he'll be overrated too and blah blah blah!
It seems for some people to be happy Floyd should invent a time machine and go back in time and fight Sugar Ray Leonard, Tommy Hearns, Julio Cesar Chavez and every other great fighter in between 135 and 147 to be legitimized. Other than Antonio Margarito who hasn't he fought that would fight him that was a worthy challenge? I can only think of maybe 2 people and they were Stevie Johnston and Joel Casamayor neither of whom I think pose a grave threat to his record. And they are definitely not better than Corrales and Castillo who were the other top guys at that weight.

he fought the top 2 guys of those weights in Corrales and castillo. tried to fight the top guys at 140, but it looks like they might face him at 147. Margarito aint the best 147 fighter, he aint nothing but a sparring session, and I dont want to have to pay 50$ for that.

Even if Margarito is the best, you usually have to earn that title not be annointed by your promoter and the media. If Margarito beat as many good fighters as Floyd or even Baldomir then I would be able to see the point. Hey Chad Dawson may be the best LHW right now but he will not have that title in my mind until he beats the recognized linear champion.

Fights for Floyd and Sugar Ray were about more than just money. They both have/had plenty of money, it was about continuing to make money while building a legacy. Clearly Baldomir/Spinks isn't making a legacy, but if he wipes the floor with Margarito that won't do anything either. If Floyd allows Margarito to establish himself like Ray did with Hagler then down the road the fight becomes much bigger (not in terms of just $).

Judah and Gatti have at least as much credibility as Cintron and Lewis. Lewis was never undisputed welter champ like Judah and Cintron might be better than Gatti but I wouldn't really know because the only real test he had was against Margarito and he lost brutally.
