GGG's too old for Nelo, how is he going to get younger by moving up and fighting a heavy hitter ?!?!?
Kovalev vs GGG at 175 right now..who wins and why

Barrera is better than DJ lol & that was a tune up bout after being semi-retired. When exactly did DJ become some A level guy? He's always been B level & that's lil gs best win.
And Ward cruised to an easy W against Bika who could barely land a headshot once Ward adjusted. Lil gs head was getting pounded on by Jacobs & Brook FFSComment

ggg-Jacobs was razor thin & HBO+ggg fans are known for counting phantom punches that is 100% fact & I can source that thread.Idk I mean he beat Jacobs pretty convincingly...outlanded him almost every round and by like 50 punches...never really understood the angle that Danny did anything but over-achieve and did well to go 12 rounds there...think 4 rounds there was fair for him.
Also...the matchup would be interesting...but it would basically be Hopkins trying to neutralize everything GGG could do...not trying to be snarky or rude but not sure if you ever really watched b-Hop fight...it's not like he was some offensive genius in there...he was just a tough tricky fighter...maybe he could flummox GGG...but likewise it is possible that GGG is a quite a bit better than Jean Pascal who drew with B-Hop.
I think that trying to find results from each guy's fights...and trying to rationalize why one would win etc...I mean it's kind of easy to do that for almost any fighter.
Depending on when they fought and at what weight, it would have been an interesting fight...but it's not like B-Hop would have knocked GGG out...if he were to win I am pretty sure it would have been a tough fight for either guy...that's how Hopkins won or lost all of his fights.
Hopkins is a master inside & that's gggs weakness, he's also physically big at 6'1 & lil g could barely handle 5'11 Jacobs because he wasn't a WW lol. Jacobs is a basic B level brawler dude, he's essentially another Edison Miranda. Do you people realize he is only there because Pirog & Martinez had a career ending injuries? And Hopkins ruined Pavlik & never returned to 160? These guys are all B level, ggg a low A level.
160 is weak, where are all the champions moving up & down? That's the signature of a strong division, when it produces champions that go into do great things out of the division.Comment

If lil g thought he could move up multiple divisions he'd have done it because it'd make him the most money, that's the point. Canelo did & now he's on his way to hundreds of millions of dollars if he pulls this off, already making tens of millions per fight from moving up & down in weight.Yeah I mean no offense but imo this is typical of an anti-GGG comment from this site...just kind of way out of left field and just seems like a 'desperate' attempt to try and slight GGG for any reason.
Like, GGG would never really have even thought about fighting Kov lol...they are friends and no fans have really ever wanted that fight...I just don't think it has really crossed either GGG's mind or Kov's for them to fight each other.
And GGG has been wanting the Canelo fight/sweepstakes/grudge match now for like 5 years...that's pretty much the only fight he has set his sights on...moving up to face Kov, at GGG's age, and possibly forgoing a Canelo fight/money/legacy/grudge match...I mean just makes no sense imo for GGG to have or to have ever had a desire to do that
Lil g didn't even mention 175 when he called out everyone from 154-168 & proceeded to drag Canelo up.Comment

I think DJ and Barrera, pfp, are similar, DJ probably higher imo...both had good amateur backgrounds and I like Barrera..think he deserved better cards vs Ward when they fought...DJ and Barrera are kind of the same guy imo...good boxing, good athleticism, good power, but both don't really do enough in the big fights to really take it.Barrera is better than DJ lol & that was a tune up bout after being semi-retired. When exactly did DJ become some A level guy? He's always been B level & that's lil gs best win.

Danny imo is more athletic for a boxer, and if his chin holds up he would be a little ahead of Barrera imo pfp....but again I like Barrera so not slighting him at all.
Idk man...I saw a pretty easy 8-4 win for GGG...Danny had 2 good rounds, GGG had like 5, and then splitting the rest gets me to 8-4, with the KD...GGG pretty clearly just didn't respect Brook's power and decided to fight him instead of try to box, and it was a good decision it would seem...got him out of there in a little over 4 rounds, and maybe Kell won 2 of the first 4...but even then GGG outlanded him in every round in that fight.
And man I just try and call it like I see it...and I saw a very even tough fight for Ward vs Barrera, and then also with Bika...I remember a lot of people were thinking that fight was very close as well when it happened...fwiw here's a box-rec article about Bika-Ward.
"A majority of observers had the fight a lot closer in terms of rounds scored to each fighter than what the judges had."

I think GGG is actually pretty good on the inside from the little I've seen...he just usually is dictating everything at range with his jab, but I've seen him mix it up on the inside in some of his fights...I think he is pretty solid there.ggg-Jacobs was razor thin & HBO+ggg fans are known for counting phantom punches that is 100% fact & I can source that thread.

Jacobs is a big puncher though, and he can also box...as his amateur career indicates...so his punching power made GGG cautious on the way in, and GGG had to try and box his way in, which neutralized him and slowed him down...Miranda can punch, but can't really box like Danny can...Hopkins can box, but he can't punch like Danny can.
I would have loved to have seen that fight between Hopkins and GGG to see if Hopkins could find a way in his back of tricks to neutralize GGG and slow him down from coming forward...so far the only guys who made GGG cautious in coming in, were big punchers, and that just wasn't really Hopkins game...would be interesting to see if GGG may try to box at first behind the jab, or if he would abandon that and would try and turn it into a slugfest.
Bro...come on lol...the big money fights for GGG were pretty much all at the lower weights...moving up in weight doesn't automatically mean you get more money...GGG was really hoping for Canelo...hoping for Cotto or even Martinez...and long-shot hoping for Floyd or Pac....he wanted to go to 168 for Froch or Chavez but GGG has always been a high risk low reward guy so until Canelo came along no one really was looking to give GGG those fights. If lil g thought he could move up multiple divisions he'd have done it because it'd make him the most money, that's the point. GGG fighting Canelo made him probably $60 million or so...and then he parlayed that into another $100 million from DAZN...it honestly worked out way better for him that even he probably could have hoped for...no way imo he makes close to that money if he had moved up prior.Comment

Barrera & DJ fight similar but SB has proven more in a loaded division & he's got a significant size advantage on DJ who isn't that big of a MW.I think DJ and Barrera, pfp, are similar, DJ probably higher imo...both had good amateur backgrounds and I like Barrera..think he deserved better cards vs Ward when they fought...DJ and Barrera are kind of the same guy imo...good boxing, good athleticism, good power, but both don't really do enough in the big fights to really take it.

SB has wins over Smith Jr., Murat & Shabs.
DJ has Derey, Mora, Quillin, & Quillin didn't even beat Andy Lee! He drew with him only bc they scored a false knockdown in Quillins favor so DJ literally fought the loser lol. Chin wise DJ was crushed in 5 by Pirog & dropped by Mora lol, SB has him beat in every way.
Either way SB was a tuneup bout for a retired Ward while DJ is lil gs #1 win by a mile.
Bika-Ward wasn't that close, after about the 3rd round Bika couldn't connect on any headshots & it was all Ward. Bika-Calzaghe on the other hand was much closer.
Regarding Hopkins, he punches harder than Canelo who was walking lil g down. Canelo is not a KO artist, never has, never will be, he couldn't even put a dent in Zombie-Chavez but you know who could Fonfara could & Chavez was fully loaded at 172. 160 is a joke.
lil g was offered all sorts of fights, issue is he didn't want them like the Ward bout.Comment

OK let's get this straight. Walking another fighter down involves getting him to abandon where he wants the fight to take place and moving him to where you want by advancing on him and forcing him back from his position. Generally to the ropes so the advancing dBarrera & DJ fight similar but SB has proven more in a loaded division & he's got a significant size advantage on DJ who isn't that big of a MW.

fighter can gain a tactical advantage. It does not involve the opposing fighter taking a step or half step back then moving back to his previous position. Sanchez said he wanted the fight to take place in the center of the ring. That's exactly where the the fight took place. If you want to say Canelo met him in the center of the ring and surprised the heck out of everyone fine but Golovkin did not get walked down in that fight. I don't know what idiot started this theme but it's kind of caught on.Last edited by TonyGe; 09-28-2019, 10:47 AM.Comment

Golovkin not moving up is making him hundreds of millions of dollars. Golovkin does not have the large rabid fan base that Canelo has in order to support him no matter who he fights. He's not based out of his home country at adjacent to it like Canelo or someone like Murata. Moving up guarantees nothing. It worked for Pacquiao but that involved a lot of catchweight fights and selective matchmaking. I give him full credit for taking on Thurman at 147. I don't for beating Oscar. I don't dislike Pacquiao I think he's amazing but for those reasons and others I take some of his wins with a grain of salt. Include MayweatherIf lil g thought he could move up multiple divisions he'd have done it because it'd make him the most money, that's the point. In that also. if you think moving up and targeting selective fighters is OK then fine. I don't see them as the only criteria in making a fighter great.Comment
