they used to spar and Kovalev himself said he has never seen GGG down. That means Kovalev himself along with other LHWs never put GGG down. his chin is certified.
If lil g thought he could really beat Sergey he would've moved up.

nope he was tied up chasing the defense record.

sergey is also his friend. look at their instagrams. they hang out together all the time casually.

I feel like Kov is an even better matchup for GGG than it is for Canelo...wouldn't be easy for GGG, but I think he is probably a smarter fighter than Kov, and with them having sparred together, I think GGG would take some good experience from that, especially as far as how to judge/deal with Kov's power...in any event, smarter or not, he would presumably know how to deal with Kov's power better than Canelo will, and dealing with Kov's power in the first 4-6 rounds will be imperative for a guy like GGG/Canelo coming up in weight and trying to win.

Imo if GGG made it to the late-middle rounds, that is where his stamina really seems to be very strong, and that is where Kov seems to fade...anyone that has stamina issues like that will be a sitting duck in a way for GGG...if he was able to keep a good pace early and make Kov work, I think those late-middle rounds would be very tough for Kov.

I think it would be a great fight though, hypothetically...just can never see them really fighting...but tbh I haven't really seen Kov outboxed by anyone, nor have I see that with GGG...they both work behind the jab so I would be interested to see who could establish the jab first...have to favor Kov with his reach, but GGG's jab is significantly better imo, pfp...it may end up being a 12 round contest, and if it goes 12 I think it would be very close on my card...if there is a stoppage, I have to favor GGG to get the stoppage and win.

Yeah I mean no offense but imo this is typical of an anti-GGG comment from this site...just kind of way out of left field and just seems like a 'desperate' attempt to try and slight GGG for any reason.

Like, GGG would never really have even thought about fighting Kov lol...they are friends and no fans have really ever wanted that fight...I just don't think it has really crossed either GGG's mind or Kov's for them to fight each other.

And GGG has been wanting the Canelo fight/sweepstakes/grudge match now for like 5 years...that's pretty much the only fight he has set his sights on...moving up to face Kov, at GGG's age, and possibly forgoing a Canelo fight/money/legacy/grudge match...I mean just makes no sense imo for GGG to have or to have ever had a desire to do that

ggg couldn't easily outbox Jacobs, even little Kell Brook managed to go a few rounds & mark his face up.
Idk I mean he beat Jacobs pretty convincingly...outlanded him almost every round and by like 50 punches...never really understood the angle that Danny did anything but over-achieve and did well to go 12 rounds there...think 4 rounds there was fair for him.

Also...the matchup would be interesting...but it would basically be Hopkins trying to neutralize everything GGG could do...not trying to be snarky or rude but not sure if you ever really watched b-Hop fight...it's not like he was some offensive genius in there...he was just a tough tricky fighter...maybe he could flummox GGG...but likewise it is possible that GGG is a quite a bit better than Jean Pascal who drew with B-Hop.

I think that trying to find results from each guy's fights...and trying to rationalize why one would win etc...I mean it's kind of easy to do that for almost any fighter.

Depending on when they fought and at what weight, it would have been an interesting fight...but it's not like B-Hop would have knocked GGG out...if he were to win I am pretty sure it would have been a tough fight for either guy...that's how Hopkins won or lost all of his fights.

I think it is just a case of ATGs like GGG often getting discussed with fantasy matchups

And come on man...GGG-Kov was never a thing...you sound like Gretchen Wieners in Mean Girls

Do you see ggg being able to completely & utterly dismantle Bernard Hopkins?

Kovalev is a better boxer, puncher, you name it. Even boxing off the back foot Sergey is superior.
idk...GGG was the much better amateur boxer...never really seen either one lose many rounds or get outboxed over the course of a fight..but GGG is usually more dominant imo.

Also neither guy really boxes much off the back foot...GGG never really has had to...but the one round he did, vs Canelo in round 5 of fight 2, was a great round for him and a clear round for him in that fight.

I mean weight classes exist for a reason bro lol...so yes Kov would probably fare better vs GGG's guys on a round by round basis than vice versa...but probably not by much imo...and for example, someone like Chilemba, I don't know if GGG beats him any better or worse than Kov did.

Depending on when GGG and Kov fought, Kov probably would have been the favorite as some points...but right now, with his stamina issues being quite prevalent in the mid-late rounds, and with GGG's stamina being a really strong point for him, that matchup favors GGG imo right now.

Nothing against Kov though, he is a great fighter and still great...just a style matchup I think...I mean the dude outboxed Ward basically every round they fought, he is no scrub by any means.

I actually think GGG is a pretty good inside fighter from what I've seen...his fight vs Ouma was basically a phone booth fight for 10 rounds...also with body shots imo, just that with Canelo's body shape it is seemingly impossible to land many shots to the body on him...if anyone has in his fights I would be surprised...Kov's body is much longer and leaner and he is just easier to find on the body.

Lol...bro Ward had a tougher fight with Sakio Bika and Sullivan Barrera than GGG had with Jacobs.

So if GGG's performance against Jacobs is a reason to slight him...you must really slight Andre for those literal shoulder-shrug fights.
