You need a win over Angel Manfredy to be an ATG HOFer

is that really a HOF resume? If they had given him the first Ward fight, then certainly.
            but without?

His best 5 wins are Alvarez, Hopkins, Pascal, Chilemba, Cleverly or Yarde. That doesn't really sound that deep.

Short answer is no. Id forgot he beat old Hop up to be honest. I was pretty amazed Hop made the distance in that fight.

I mean it's kind of semantics...and the Chilemba performance wasn't overly impressive...but that was a better win than Hopkins at 50 imo.

I would also say that the Ward fights would probably best be described as a clear robbery...and arguable stoppage/reffing in the 2nd fight.

If he got the nod in those 2 fights it would be hard to say he isn't an ATG...personally his achilles heel with his stamina just precludes me from saying he is really an ATG, at the present time.

Talent wise I think he is close...but regardless of 'unjust' decisions he has shown a bit too much vulnerability to be a clear ATG...on talent alone though I think he is close to that label and definitely a HOFer.

In a way he reminds me of Tommy Hearns...great boxers and lethal punchers...both had some vulnerabilities and frailties...biggest difference is Kov was robbed in a way of his career defining win, and Hearns had his defining fights, win or lose, with the other big 3...both have had a 'bad' loss...Hearns had a couple, Kov with 1 right now.

Biggest difference is Hearns was so sensational in the way he was able to traverse the weight classes, going all the way up to cruiser!!...so that feather in his cap, though his ability to do that was kind of just up to luck, is a big one imo.

His 1st loss to Ward was tooth and nail and Kovalev honestly couldve gotten it without bias.

2nd fight with Ward Kovalev was ahead before succumbing. Mentally Kovalev wasnt right for that fight

1st fight with Alvarez Kovalev still wasnt right if you ask me, but he avenged that defeat masterfully and beat Yarde in another brilliant performance.

Kovalev is HOF 1st ballot. If he smokes Canelo and beats 1-2 of Beterbiev and Bivol you can make a good case for ATG

It's an ok resume but not ATG.

Ward and Hopkins are the only two elite names on his ledger.
