Andre Ward is insanely overrated

Save me with your rules, it's hardly ever enforced and greats know how to buy enough time to get the refs off their back.Comment

Never loved/hated/really felt anything about him until the low blow ending of the Kovalev fight. That was so pathetic that I lost interest in boxing and got back into MMA for a couple years.
It's good when a fight angers you and you want to see more. But when it ends via blatant intentional fouling you just kinda shrug and look for something else to do with your time.
As for just beating European white guys... Those were the top guys above middleweight. Would you be more impressed if he strictly fought guys from within 2 states of him even if they were ranked #177? Some of that golden age 1970s ATG action.Comment

Originally posted by Doctor_TenmaWard mastered all of the basic fundamentals and his instincts in the ring, his reactive ability, that was on par with Mayweather. A lot of the stuff people are disgusted by, that being the way Ward operates on the inside, well none of that stuff is new to the sport. The issue at hand was that inside fighting was/is such a dying art that everything Ward did up close was seen as dirty. No it's an art because how many today know how to sneak in those short punches in close, utilizing their free hand? Ward would also keep his opponents turning whilst on the inside, never allowing them to get off. The issue is Ward's ability on the inside isn't highlight material and so people bitch about it.

... Kid, dear... you ask me to save you with "my" rules??? They aren't "my" rules... They simply are rules in (different) sports...
... In the image above, Ward is simply using a "technique" which is permitted in Wrestling, in MMA, and in Rugby Football... but never in boxing!!!...
... Take a walk, kid dear...Comment

He won an Olympic gold medal.
He won a tournament to crown the best fighter at 168 lbs.
He beat Chad Dawson when Dawson was the WBC light heavyweight champion of the world.
He folded Sergey Kovalev and ruined him mentally, even causing him to go to a monastery to try and find himself.
He tried fighting Golovkin who didn't want that smoke.
What more was he supposed to do?Comment

Low blows, rabbit punches and leading with the head were an integral part of Ward's style, he used them to break an opponents rhythm and make them hesitant.
It's sneaky and dishonest but this type of fighting is respected and admired within certain cultural communities.Comment
