Ward mastered all of the basic fundamentals and his instincts in the ring, his reactive ability, that was on par with Mayweather. A lot of the stuff people are disgusted by, that being the way Ward operates on the inside, well none of that stuff is new to the sport. The issue at hand was that inside fighting was/ is such a dying art that everything Ward did up close was seen as dirty.

None if it is new but a lot of what he does is illegal and was illegal in the past. Ward is a dirty fighter. There is no way around it. People ragged on Duran (unjustly for the most part) for using illegal tactics but Ward made him look like a choirboy.

But you can't even name one great white fighter and where they would rank in the ATG list...pretty sad that you outed yourself man...as if any of us really though different though...sigh...

Duran was able to put it all together better than any fighter I've ever seen on the inside and he made it look a lot prettier than Ward. Still, the same clamping of the arms, utilizing head control but his transitioning was a lot quicker so none of that stuff so many deem as dirty would marinate in people's heads.

For the record I do not consider Ward a great inside fighter, never have, mainly because he does not work well with both hands. The manner in which he operates in close is still a rarity, Canelo is missing that component, if Canelo knew how to clamp his opponent's arms and utilize his free hand he wouldn't tire himself out as much.
